Examples of kill switch setups...

With all the posts about thefts and break-in's...

I've been searching for a good kill switch setup for the 521.

I mainly see battery-breaker type:

I'd rather find a way to wire up a hidden switch in the cab, but if anyone here has a good setup,

Please, post some pics and info!!

appreciate it!

A simple kill switch is an easy thing to do. You can just hide a switch that cuts the current to the dizzy so the car only cranks if someone wants to steal it, it will not start. If you have an electric fuel pump, you can wire a switch to that circuit and no power to the FP means no fuel to the engine.

On electronic fuel injected motors, you can wire in a switch to the power of the ECU.

I have heard about hidden magnetic switches that you pass a small earth magnet over the hidden switch (under the console, begind the dash, etc.) to power up the disabled circuit.

Unless they have a tow truck it aint movin.

brilliant!

more than 1 is also smart.

electric fuel pump? easiest ;)

be sure that the switch you get isnt a cheap chinese knock off. i have a cole-hearse switch like that, its keyed, but the removable toggle is nice too.

I like the multiple switch method. I have several kill switches on all my Datsuns. That along with a removable steering wheel will make any thief either have to push it down the street or tow it away.

When I need to leave my car somewhere I am concerned about it being heisted, I park mine with the wheels at full lock to the left or right and remove the steering wheel and hit the multiple kill switches. They can tow it if they really want it but most car thefts of Datsuns are not by professionals and these deterrents will stop most attempts.

I saw a thread a few years back about a a guy that installed deadbolts on his doors that were acuated by a set of electric door lock actuators. The deadbolt was inside the door and when triggered, would pop out and slide into a hole in the B pillar. Once in place, the door could not be opened from either side. Yes. The thief could break the window and climb in over the broken glass but it sure makes it harder.

Here is a link to the thread but the pics are not there anymore.

You think I'm gonna post PICTURES of where the kill switch is? On an open forum? Especially with all the thefts going around?

My 4X4 has a system that disables a particular component. It's not intuative, and it certainly isn't pretty or very refined. But it works, and a thief would have no idea it was even there.

Though recently all of my trucks have had a very good anti-theft system. Being that I couldn't get the damn things to start when it was wet out.

'nuff said!

I didn't expect anyone to divulge any secrets.

-just helpful "hints" and tech tips on what works and what doesn't

My only line of defense right now is The Club (pedal lock style).

thanks

Listen, what yo said about havin only the club....ya know, most guys lookin to jack a car dont want to have to spend time with any of that stuff...called a deterrant...they will go on to any easier "mark"...sooooo even the club works to some extent...

Here is a thought........friend of mine with a goon (back a few years ago now) used to pop the hood and take the COIL wire with him...ya know just pull it and slip it in your pocket. Ya know most of these jack offs wont be carryin a spare COIL wire with em...engine will crank forever, but NO FIRE...think bout that...

I did the wire thing when someone "dumped" a stolen 200SX in my folk's backyard. We reported it (the cops said it wasn't stolen... it was. Different jurisdiction) but to keep the thieves from taking it again I pulled both coil leads. Put 'em back when the owner came to get it.

Or take the distributor rotor. Can't even see if it's gone if they don't take the cap off.

Just don't lose it...

On trucks with the pull out parking brake how about making something that goes around the shaft and locks the parking brake out? I figure take a piece of steel pipe and cut it in half, weld hinges and a spot to put a pad lock on it. When you pull the parking brake, slip that around it and lock it.

I may make some of these and offer them up for sale.

I know this thread is ancient but was curious about making a devise that locks the gas pedal to the brake pedal.

Really like the idea of the kill switch coming off the distributer.

On most of my stuff, I pull the engine, transmission and put it on jack stands in my yard, seems to be really effective. I think a well hidden kill switch is good but I think a switch on an electric fuel pump is a little better. A guy with a length of wire can clip one end to the pos side of a batt, the other to the pos side of the coil and just the starter with a screw driver to fire it up. If the fuel pump is shut off, he will have to look for it, not to mention he probably already drove 1/2 a block on what was in the carb. Chances are he's just going to jump ship on the deal. Having both the fuel and the ign shut off and it becomes even more of a pain and that's what you want.

Just take the distributor with you, it's only 2 bolts...

The PO of my truck actually tried to up the price because he said it had "that anti-theft"... I floor mounted ignition switch so that they can't hotwire it under the dash. Crazy 90 year olds...

I really like the idea of wiring up the distributor so that it looks stock. That and a removeable steering wheel are probably the best bet for those without that fancy electronic fuel pump. Just get an old school hub or "keyed" hub

Again, ok if leaving your car for the winter but not practical if going to the 7/11. The simpler/easier the more it will get used.
