Bleach
The same as any basic engine swap. Custom engine mounts or slightly modified ones. Custom rear transmission mount. Have the driveshaft shortened to the proper length and balanced by a driveline shop. Then set the wiring in. You can go about the wiring different ways. Its up to you. Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
I've had to CA18ET cars, as well as a ca18de and a sr20det and a ka24e truck. My opinion is spend some extra cash and get the CA18DET (dual cam) or go for a ka the ca18et is not that fast, and is a bitch to wire compared to the ka or even sr. the turbo hits the steering box. The EFI is so old it doesn't run very good without all the cold start crap. I would say pass it up, keep your eyes pealed for a new motor with more after-market support. I bought this car from a former NWDE member, Guy. Me and my bro put this one togather for "cheap" Quote Link to comment
Glengemen
I'm with Ice on that. I had an 84 s12 turbo, and it did not impress at all as far as strait line performace. Even modded with a bigger turbo, FMIC and a megasquirt 200HP is really maxed for that engine. Add that with the integrated wiring harness(same crap I delt with putting the HB wiring in my 620) I would find a KA24DET or even just a DE and make tons more power and torque. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The CA18ET is around 135 hp but the CA18det is more... maybe 175-180 ish? Quote Link to comment
Bleach
wow, 135hp turbo? The CA18DE is 135hp Quote Link to comment
Glengemen
Yeah 135, It's because the head is garbage, and there is not very much room to port it, so you are stuck. If I remember right the DE head bolts to the single cam block, but I don't know the specifics. If you want to research it look at club s12, they have a ton of CA info there. Also reading the original post the 200SX turbo was only built 84 and 85(mark 1), after that the highline engine was the VG30(mark 2). Base engine for both Mark 1&2 was the CA20E which doesn't have the bottom end to support a turbo application. Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
The heads are swapable, acording to s12.org and Guy from the nwde club. The ca18det's aren't that expensive, a buddy of mine found one for 500$ it ran sweet to. Quote Link to comment
Bleach
The L28ET is a good turbo engine, but the T5 transmission sucks! ;) Quote Link to comment
