anyone know what this control box is?

I think it's called the move indicator relay. There is a speed detector in the auto tranny to let the emissions know that the car is in motion in order to select the correct set of advance or retard points. On the standard tranny there is a third/ fourth/ neutral switch, plus the clutch switch that takes care of this.

Morning Mike. Thanks for that 'nugget' of info. The diagram I have shows it connected to the cable but it's not clear if it's in the tranny or not. Since standards are the norm its good to learn something about the auto. I checked the 620 auto and it doesn't seem to have it but maybe the 521?

I too have that box in my auto trans 510. I didn't know what it did either. I had to unplug mine because it was clicking really loud when I was in motion.

 

I had a 510 that did the same thing, it was kinda funny :D

Is that a recent pic Mike? When are you going to put those fenders I traded you on :D dam that was a long time ago, we have been buddies for ever :)
