dukerollo
I've started work again on the old 210 (b310). I got the front suspension buttoned up and tried my wheels on the front for the first time. With the 280zx struts and the stock steering arms, the 15x8 et0 wheels hit the tie rod ends. No bueno. To get the wheels bolted up, I had to throw 10mm of spacer behind them. Needless to say, a 15x8 et-10 is too much poke. What are my options as far as steering arms are concerned? I need something shorter or something that angles in toward the center of the car more. Will a 15x8 clear on a pl510 with Zx struts? I am assuming that the ball joint taper is similar between the two. I know the steering geometry will potentially change, but I can figure all that out. I'd post pics, but I need to figure out how to do so without those photobucket assholes. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I can't see why they would hit unless the 280zx hub wheel mounting surface is also moved in closer to the car center. If this is the case, a spacer will only move it back where the stock rim was. Try the zx steering arms. Quote Link to comment
dukerollo
That is exactly the problem. The zx struts narrow the front track. I have a hunch that that, coupled with the b310 arms is causing the issue. I haven’t heard of it from the 510 guys. I assume the geometry of their steering arms allows the wheel to fit. From my understanding, the zx uses a larger ball joint, is this the case? Quote Link to comment
dukerollo
I’ve figured it out. My bump steer spacers are too tall. They would probably work with the zx steering arm, but in my application, they will need to be cut down. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Is it lower than stock? You only need spacers if there is bump steer added from lowering. The spacers return the tie rod ends to horizontal. Quote Link to comment
dukerollo
Much lower. Sectioned zx struts, coilovers etc. I ran the same setup on my 510 with the spacers and it was very well behaved. Hopefully the removal of the spacers does not negatively effect things too much. Quote Link to comment
