620owner
Can the inner cable be removed at the transmission to lubricate the speedometer cable or does it have to be removed at the speedometer ? 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Yes you can hope to shoot lube from the bottom but it will drain down. Buy a spare nissan cable(best or Rockauto (interior section) or PartsGeek might have a cheap Pioneer brand( never tried these myself so dont know if they are good or not) 1 Quote Link to comment
john510
It would work better to lube it from the speedo end.The transmission end is probably plenty lubed up. 1 Quote Link to comment
kelowg
To remove inner cable,u have to disconnect at trans. U spray lube down cable housing but likely get all the way down it. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Unscrew from the transmission... but have something clean to collect it in, it's very slippery and floppy. Use molybdenum disulphide grease of graphite. Push back in and twist the end and have someone confirm the speedometer needle jumps, if not, spin the other direction. This will show the cable has connected to the gauge. Now connect the ferule on the end, into the receiver on the pinion sleeve. Slip the outer cable back on and tighten it. Inspect the outer cable for damage and tape it up to keep crap out. Order a new one. A cable from another '70s vehicle will work but only if it is the same or longer in length. 3 Quote Link to comment
