got it home and cleaned up a bit, got some new fenders, hood, and dash from the junkyard for reasonable price and polished them up.

Started tearing it down and only ran into a little trouble with the front intake stud.

but i was able to get the stud out with a little work. The engine is completely torn down to bare block as of now. waiting to be able to order a new rebuild kit for it.

I'm going to replace the bearings, pistons, gaskets, etc... not sure yet if i want to replace the rods or not they seem fine and i'm not really going to be building this engine for boost. that will be the next one that will replace this ka. Before i can start putting it back together i need to find someone locally (astoria or) that will hot tank the block and probably the head for me.

main and rod bearings have been ordered.

any suggestions on a decent flywheel looking for a mix of lightweight that won't break the bank. found one on autozone website that's 16lbs for 200.

One very easy trick to help with rod bearing life is to drill the #2 and #4 main bearing oiling hole to 1/4". Yes, drill the passage in the block and in the rod bearing. Since the rods get their oil from these oil galleys, making them larger helps give them a bit more oil, making them last longer under hard use. Be sure to chamfer the holes in the bearings and the galleys when done. And I assume you have the main oil galley plugs out, so be sure to scrub out the chips before assembly.

Also, did you check the crank thrust while you had it mocked up?

got the engine mostly put back together today just need to finish putting the accessories back on but before i do that i might want to find my power steering pump bracket.. once i get the trans, engine rear plate, clutch/flywheel it'll be ready to drop in.
