Muffler with slanted tip

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon, I have searched for a while and thought I would ask here.  I am redoing the exhaust on my dime and wanted to get a similar muffler to what was used on JDM legend's 510's.  If you watched the show you will notice they use a polished muffler with a slanted tip to coincide with the rear of the dime.  Anyone have any good insight into this type of muffler?  I want to get away from the ricer exhaust currently on the car. TIA

Pick below is what the exhaust tip looked like.

photo above looks like a Z car set up. and welded really fine.

Ck out Jegs or Summit of a SS santed ex pipe.   Look like this was welded and with  ahanger tab.

One can buy a slip on type most anywhere but they rust out pretty fast

I myself like the stock look and like the Dynomax Superturbo as it has the turn vanes inside the muffler so it wont rot a hole in the end of the case. Its not stainless but has held up well on my 521.I wouls go stock quiet Walker type if to do it again. I like quiet now and just upsize the pipe to 1.75 ( or 2in) from stock pipe

I also have a Dynomax Ultraflow which is a strait thru design in a Turbo case on my 510.

I used a Magnaflow 4x9" Oval on mine.  With a 12" resonator in the middle of the car it sounds pretty nice. Unlike the one in the picture you posted, I'd recommend an offset one.  You'll want the inlet to it on the side farthest to ease routing/tire clearance and the outlet on the opposite side to line up with the factory exhaust hole.  This should nestle it nicely in the lower quarter panel area.  I cut the "bracket' off the one that was on the car and welded it to the top of this to hang it.  For the slanted tip part, I just ordered a slanted chrome tip, cut it to length, and welded it onto the muffler outlet.

This is the muffler I used:

The chrome tip (I cut it shorter):

That muffler set up is custom.  For best exhaust tone AWAY from the ricer fart cans (I like some of them!), buy a good quality "turbo style" muffler without exhaust tip, cuz you have indicated that you want to turn the muffler like in the pic (like a Z car), buy a chrome or stainless tip, and cut & weld to suit your needs!  That muffler looks like an offset INLET, and has a centered OUTLET, with a slant cut exhaust tip welded on.  Hope that helps!
