NO!!!

Only GL-4 oil in a Datsun transmission. The copper alloy synchro rings will be slowly eroded away by the extra anti scuff additives in GL-5. GL-5 is for differentials only that need it. The GL-4 should say 'yellow metal safe' or 'copper/brass compatible'. If in doubt don't use it keep looking.

Yes GL5 is a superior HP high pressure gear oil to GL-4, but transmissions don't need it and it's no good for them. Don't let some parts counter monkey try to talk you into this 'upgrade'.

The anti scuff additive is sulfur based and in high enough concentrations it bonds with the surface molecules of the copper and forms a hard wearing surface. This would be like having a sheet of glass covering your mattress.  Any load on it and the surface shatters and sheds leaving a new surface for the anti scuff to bond to and it just keeps shedding. GL-4 has concentrations of about 4%, GL-5 is 6%. Now it might look like only 2% different but if you think about it 6 is 50% more than 4.

Be informed, know as much as you can about your B-210 and what you are buying for it and why. These cars are over 40 years old and a lot of stuff today does not apply to them.

I have had zero luck with anything with synthetic in it !

Red Line, Mobil-1, etc..

It won't shift correctly any longer if you try.

Just go to Napa, and buy a jug of CRC StaLube # SL24239.

And you may want to rethink the 75w90.

Nissan Racings says to use 140wt on anything over 90* ambient.

I run StaLube SAE 140 all year around, and my 38 year old Z 5-speed loves it, even on 40* days.

It is # SL24238

Not at all, I'm using GM Delco Friction Modified Synchromesh Manual Transmission oil and am over the moon satisfied with it. Easier, shifting, faster shifting, less effort when cold, can down shift now whereas before it was very stiff or would grind slightly. HOWEVER.... synthetic is so thin/slippery it will leak out the rear seal if old and worn where GL-4 80w90 won't. I just replace the $4 seal.

I am at 50th parallel so rarely gets much above 90F here but can dip briefly to 25F. But I don't drive in the winter.

i went with the 90-140 stuff myself as my 521 is a leaker

As with G Duax I stay away from the synthetics

with my Yamaha  RD350 i put  80wt synthetic in trans and now it leaks more than with the 30 wt standard. WTF. Old seals just dont like them. stuff is thinner even if you up the WT number(seems to me)

as for GL4/5 I just run what I find at Walmart ir O rileys as having oil is better than no oil.(last 10years in 521)

sta lube is on my list to get now

I may try the Shell Synchromesh stuff in my S15-R 6-speed, been hearing a lot of good stuff about it.

It's available from many different sources (OEM distribution), so it will be easy to find.

Besides, I have no idea what lube Nissan wanted in that thing......
