918 Mexican Orange is a very common 510 & Z car color, i think 1971-1973.  We have two 510's & two 240Z's in that color!!

I also do not see the Cactus Green PAINT CODE in your chart for the 510........another common color!  I wonder if Cactus Green is a nickname for either the #546 Gray Green or the #554 Kasumi Green.....??  Unfortunately our Cactus Green 510 is missing the paint code sticker!

Hope that helps a little!

I think I got my information from a Datsun enthusiast who had found an old book showing only 1968 information.

I want to add colors... but only if you're fairly certain that the information is accurate. I think as other 510 owners chime in I can get this filled out!

The HUGE problem with the paint code stickers of the 70's Datsun's, is that the actual # printed on the stickers typically fades and cant be read.  I bet 75% of the 25++ 510's that I have had, the # is faded & gone!  I believe that the new car brochures of the 70's had a paint color chart in them, maybe with the code..........??

I have all the US-spec brochures posted here:

Check this site for other colors and possible naming as well...

Yeah, I am aware of that site and couple of others, but their historical accuracy is pretty dismal... they pretty much list anything that MIGHT be possible -- whereas I want to try to have accurate year-by-year data for each model.

Datsun paint codes with color samples...

Whew, hard to read those codes, but I was able to add a bunch of unknowns to my database for future use.

I updated my chart... but not really happy with not actually knowing which colors apply to which years. I hate to add information that isn't verifiable, but in this case I guess any information is better than no information. Hopefully over time we can refine this.

Thanks for your help!

Here are some links with actual color images for all Datsuns by year.

https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_swatch_datsun_1973

https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_swatch_datsun_1972

https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_swatch_datsun_1968

There was no individual page for 69 - 71 so I assume that is because there was no change from previous year.

Here is a link for all datsuns 1969 - 1974 however there are some 68 colors listed.  Also the url says it is for 1970 but the colros have the year they were offered listed as well and it covers more than 1970.

hope this helps.

Colors are helpful, thank you!  I wish it told me which colors applied to which models, but eventually someone will dig this up.

All I can add is my paint code, barely visible on the sticker is 906, and has been named some variation of gold or orange, and most reliably as Safari Brown.

And here is a photo of my 1972 which is listed as orange on my title. I am 99% sure it is original paint.

Ugh.  ...and 817 is also Sable Brown Metallic on the 1980-1981 Datsun 200SX and 1981 Maxima.  Thanks Datsun.

Thanks @Draker!  I updated the chart with your info.

Ugh is right !! You are taking on a daunting task, so thanks so much. It was too frustrating for me with just the one paint code name I wanted.

Keep updating your reference chart and over time it will become the go to resource.

818 FINALLY LISTED SOMEWHERE!

Ive seen less than a handful of cars my color, here is my 69

Haha... you DO exist!

Have anymore photos I can post for that color?  I added that shot to the example images, but the way the sun hits it makes it hard to appreciate the color.  Maybe some angles with the light hitting the car?

PS: That patina'd 2-door is perfect... I'll assume there's an RB26TT under the hood. 🙂

That 2 door 69 dime is my favorite dime of all time.

I just went ahead and ordered some touch up.  After peeling some of the red off of my car I saw the blue underneath and want to color match to confirm its the original color.  Other wise I might need to carefully chip away at that to get to the bottom of it since the color code sticker is gone.  I should add that the blue is found throughout the car under the dash and carpet so I am betting it is the factory color but you never know.
