driving on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere going around a corner at 5500 rpm, hit a bump back wheels went in the air mustve gone to 6200 or so and the coil lost all power

i figure it must have something to do with this big bronze fuse by the battery, car doesn't sound broken sounds like it has compression just no spark

anyway i might be able too fix it out here? all i have is a flathead screwdrivet

I always carried a toolbox and Mutimeter(daily driver 521) cause I never had a cell fone. Got to learnon side of road

Had a lashpad drop once but one needs tools to fix it.

Most time it can be fixed right there its just finding the proplem

ck the wires ,fuse box, battery hitting the hood cause of no tiedown(common Datsun owner trait)

you pull the center wire and see if spark? ck for gas?

Im not a A motor guy so Im just giving best guess

Doubt it was a coil failure.

Still think something came apart on the wiring somewhere.

I carry the essentials, electrical tape, duct tape, mechanical wire, some electrical wire, and a few tools.

But it's illegal to carry what would cure an old car, a pound of C4.....

So you can crank the engine. Turns over. So starter good. Battery good. Engine not seized. Air isn't likely an issue. Fuel is likely okay based on how it shut off. Sounds electrical almost certainly. Sounds like the connections on the ballast resistor, starter, and dizzy, plugs need to be checked. Do dash lights still come on when key in? Ignition at minimum must work. Check the engine ground wire. That braided wire can get so beat up and corroded that a bump can break it. If that goes bad, the coil will have a hard time delivering a spark to the plugs.

This is going to sound crazy, open up the dizzy cap and make sure the center contact on the cap is there, the one with the little spring. After a “spirited” run home from a buddies house that entailed air beneath all four tires, my 510 wouldn’t start. I went through everything and was about to give up when I checked the cap, the center electrode was missing...spring and all. I grabbed one out of my golf iii and put it in the 510 cap...fired right up and went to get a new cap.

All right looks like some of the wires have fried and harnesses melted but nothing else. The alternator is not charging the batt anymore either. Is this black wire wire the ground for the alternator? there is a wire down the line that fell off and looks  the same.

Wont start again today. same thing as before, no power from the coil. Checked and changed the coil and the cap, looked at all the spark plugs, disconnected the battery ground and cleaned it, but still nothing. All I have done since yesterday is ground the alternator because the battery wasn't charging.

I'm thinking it has something to do with this bronze relay by the battery, it was clicking a lot yesterday. anyone know exactly what this is?

It is ei. it is brand new maybe 50 miles on it only. I can get a new module.

I tried 3 coils just now I know they all work. there are no volts to the coil. the power from the coil seems to come from this relay. it goes from the battery to the relay into the coil. I jiggled the relay around a little bit and now all electrics shut off when i try the starter. but i jiggled it again and the starter works again, just no power to the coil.
