The fuckery is what sets ratsun apart from other forums. Quite frankly, I find the realm boring and less welcoming. Forums held to some bullshit code of conduct that virtually no car enthusiast would hold themselves to are toxic in a different way, it leads to passive aggressive pussification. I’m a member of a Crown Vic forum, there’s strict language rules, and the mods let their buddies be punks even without off color language. They’ve banned people for requesting fair moderation for all. Wait a minute...

I mean no disrespect to the Realm,i'm glad it's there but yes boring and seems to be a place where only a select few participate regularly..If Ratsun gets too much like the Realm i would probably not stop by here very often.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/finance/topstories/california-moves-to-require-solar-panels-on-all-new-homes/ar-AAx1G5N?OCID=ansmsnnews11

Jumping out ahead of the rest of the country, California on Wednesday moved to require solar panels on all new homes and low-rise apartment buildings starting in 2020.

While it is not a bad idea, it is going to take and make an expensive build even more so putting housing even further out of reach.

Actually the opposite is found to be true. By rolling the purchase into the initial build, compared to retrofit people will pay nearly 10% less. As well, the interest rate will be low as it will be rolled into the mortgage. As well, utility bills will be minimal freeing capital for mortgage payments. Tax credits still apply paying for nearly a third the system cost. It makes a shit ton of sense to install solar when building a home. But sure. The state should let people pay PG$E if they want to.

Federal tax credits are gone, according to local installers who advertise while the state here has a small credit. Could not find a link that says what Cal has for a tax credit on solar. Going to guess not much of one if at all as bad as the budget in Cal is at the moment. So take out the credits it is just an extra cost.

Federal ITC credit of 30%. Your local installers are selling leases and taking the credit for themselves. Yes, I am correct. This is exactly why the installation at time of construction makes so much sense. No one will be dumb enough to sign for a lease. (Sorry if you did, it is really a bad financial decision unless you have 0 tax liability).

No.you will not pay 10% less when you buy a house with solar on it.You will pay a lot more to the builder than what the builder pays a solar installation company. As someone that works construction and knows about estimating and upgrades/options on a new home i guarantee the builders aren't giving solar away at cost. You're going to pay at least twice what the developer did.And California has NO tax credit for installing solar, its been gone for awhile.

This coming from a state that wants to build affordable housing for all and in the meantime charges developers ridiculous money for permits and fees for random shit.

Didn't say there was a state credit in CA, just federal. And yes there is a federal credit of 30%. Also, developers spec homes with solar and buy 50 at a time, with each system the same design, they are way cheaper than a custom designed retrofit system, and the builder does mark it up, and the final cost still falls waaaay under boutique installers such as my company. About 10% in my experiance. But often even cheaper than that. If you run a crew for a month in a development, building the same system over and over, they go in soooo fucking fast. Materials are bulk buy/ bulk ship. Vendors cut deals etc. this is not opinion. Engineering fees are gone, permit prep gone, sales comission gone, labor waaaay down, travel time gone,
