outlaw questions

Recommended Posts

Its been years! I don't have my 720's or d21's anymore but hope to find something after this upcoming project

I'm trying to figure out what i would need to do to run dual outlaw carbs on a LS .... Yes i know LS are played out but I'm trying to put a touch of ratsun funk on it by running webers.

I seen the weber 48 set ups but that's not my style. I've played with webers in the past and tinkered with them some. I don't remember much about them other than they were reliable and fun if sealed correctly

Thanks!

Anyone make a dual 4bbl carb intake for it? That and some adapters would really kill your horsepower potential, but it would work...    ^_^

Yes I've seen a few different dual quad intake manifolds on Summit Racing and jegs and I've also seen an adapter that looks like it's for side draft carbs OR ITB to 4bbl (im looking into this as well but not looking promising for obvious reasons)

Being that Mike mentioned the Yamaha R1 carbs (cv started in 2002 from what i gather) im thinking about that as well.

But it would be cool........

Thanks! Im going after a cool facter even though I've been flamed for it or just totally ignored by others outside of ratsun.

I am trying to make this a functional and somewhat feasible set up, trying to keep it around $1000+/- or less. i will be starting on the build this winter if nothing else attacks what little money im trying to set aside for it.

I was even thinking TBI from early 90's chevies at 1 time lol

Adapters wouldn't be hard to make. Get some 1/2" thick aluminum plate and get to drilling/cutting.  ^_^

O yes im familiar with aluminum stock. I've made adapters for carbs and solid mounts for engines and trannies over the years.....im just worried about putting all that work drilling and shaping and then find out there's a more efficient adapter design or intake for the time/work that i put into it.

I know it would be one hell of a job to do and probly costly but i was thinking about making a wooden form (can't think of the real term for it) that has the dimensions i need for the original fitment of the factory intake manifold for the LS and fit the flanges and custom runners where i need them in the form and figure out a way to temporarily stick them that way till i could find someone to weld them....or jb weld the hell out of the connections then grind everything clean.

This is not something that is going to happen.   B)

This is a terrible plan.   ^_^

Guess what gasoline does to most low grade epoxies? It's not good.

I guess i will figure out the intake manifold design on my own if i don't decide to buy 1 of the premade ones from summit or jegs (haven't looked at all the ls carb intakes from jegs yet, may be exact selection as summit)

For now i suppose i will study on how to set up an outlaw carb or 2 for an LS or v8 in general. I hope the next few months fly by so i can get my hands on some parts.

Where would i find some great literature on setting up a carb for applications? Pictures would be nice too lol.

I know this is kind of a dumb question to ask this far into the process BUT being i will be running the outlaws for a little while till i get bored then swap out the intake or carbs later.

What is the max hp dual outlaws would support? I'm going to try for a stroker kit to reach 500-750hp BUT for time being i could run the outlaws on almost stock internal dimensions. ...till i get bored lol

I'd wager 150-175hp each max. It's really more about volume. The LS flows well enough that even with two it will be struggling to breathe a little.

Although Weber claims one 38/38 is capable of flowing 390cfm, I'm not sure that sounds plausible. If they are correct, 780cfm should be enough...

Thanks, years ago i had a 390 autolite (i think) on either a z24 or the vg30....can't remember but it was a great size carb from what i remember. If i can get that same peppy power out of that LS with the 2 outlaws then i think that would do me good for a little while...

I'm going to push for the outlaws as hard as i can but....we will see

Now I'm remembering about the 390 autolite...i don't think i seen one of those since i had mine but i did have to dig through a mans junk yard to find that one. The owner looked at me kinda weird because i was so damned happy to find it lol
