Aprentice Needed for my 71-WPL510 Build

Recommended Posts

Apprentice needed – Move to the Cool Pines of Prescott, stay in my Casita with its own bathroom. Plenty of chares on the patio next to the outdoor kitchen with a 100 mile view to contemplate what we should be doing because I’m in my reclining years. Any age or experience level, welding skills preferred. I have built over 150 Datsuns, when I had my business they would take me about 4 months; I’m going into my 4th year on my current build. Room and board furnished and bragging rites building the most unique 71-WPL510 project ever with a KA24DE, 4-link coil-over rear axle, big Willwood Brakes and 17” rims, 240SX radiator and under hood AC, D21 evap and heater box under dash, 240Z rack and pinion and fully adjustable control arms from Arizona Z Car, ZX struts and Eibach springs, 5 way heated adjustable leather seats from a Mercury Sable and more.

Oh, the possibilities.....Prescott is awesome (at least the few times I have been there) and so much closer to Williams than here.

I wonder if Missus Kelmo would want to get rid of me for the summer.  Bring the green coupe to tool around in on slow days.

Think I'm going to be daydreaming for the rest of the day.

The seats I found at a bone yard, I wanted leather and the rear seat was a 2 piece the same width as my 510, I thought it would bolt in but I had to pull the covers and put them on my 510 frames, I even welded in the head rest tubes from the Merk. Sorry this offends you but these old bones can use the heat. I have the OE seats if you are a purist and like trash you can have them.

Tr8er...Thanks for helping me out bro. It is REALLY difficult keeping up with her boyfriends.  If she comes out to see you, yer paying for the trip this time.

Don't know if DF is a purist or not, Just a guess. And I think you would have to get up pretty early to offend him (I think).  Build it your way, it is your ride.

If this had been posted this time last year, I would be all in.  Still, there will be a conversation with the missus. Seriously, what an awesome opportunity.

DF......the purist.

Um, no. Not at all.

I've built 27 510s so far, none even close to stock. Hell, only one had stock seats and I hated them...

One of the many signs on the wall of my shop says "Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Stock".

Not even close. Just having a laugh sir. Just having a laugh.

I've seen a lot of Sables in my time. Never one that I looked into and said "hey, those seats would be cool in an old Datsun".

I am thankfully still just young enough to put "uncomfortable" seats in my hot rods. The daily has comfy chairs, so...

I'm not as purist as I make out but I do enjoy some comfort or utility items. My Datsun has heated, electric adjust, leather front buckets. (70s Datsun buckets are shit) The rear view mirror is from a Buick and glued to the glass (has day/night and two map reading lamps that serve as interior lights also. My side view mirrors are '80s Chevy and both are remote adjustable. Headlamps are HID. When replacing or upgrading I try to use a Datsun or later Nissan part like my 100 amp Altima alternator. Sometimes you just have to look elsewhere. When I drive to Canby and after, I may drive 12 or more hours straight and cover up to 3K miles in days.

With our woodworking skills you might want to help with the interior, I have this idea to use 3” wide hickory wood strips separated with 1” aluminum T-bar and banded with 1” aluminum angle for the rear deck and a mini version for the back of the rear seat so it looks like a mini wooden truck bead with the rear seat down in the wagon. How are you welding skills, you can teach me how to weld aluminum with my brand new Lincoln Pulse Tig Welder. I was going to hold everything in place with strong earth magnets. I’m sure you will be a big help. I don’t see vary well anymore and I am kind of scared to use my table saw and router table. Or I can show you how to cut the 240SX harness down to fit the 510, for some reason it looks like it came out of a school buss. You know what they say, “Those who can’t Do, Teach” I am an Expert with the enfaces on the X
