Not too long ago Nissan / Datsun insisted on replacing the rod bolts since they were designed to be stretch fit items at recommended torque specs!  Strange to say, once these bolts were no longer available, "they" changed their minds and said OK to reuse !  So !  Original push to generate replacement bolt sales, or a corporate decision to sell replacement engines when the rod bolts failed ?  I bought and replaced mine when I rebuilt my RL411 engine .

I've never heard this. All Datsun bolts are simply tightened to the torque specified. This is an amount that is designed to be 'close enough' to hold the parts together but not so much the bolt is stretched beyond it's yield point. They can be used over and over. Later torque to yield bolts (while more accurate in their clamping force) are just a way to use a smaller cheaper bolt ONCE to save money by Nissan.

Datsun l24-l28 bolts head bolts (several engines...)broke on me on enough occasions that I don’t believe them to be re-usable *forever*.

Always when dissemble from the previous owner.

People don’t chase their threads , neglect cooling systems , or over torque to so idk.

Ive never had a problem L28et head bolts.

I’ve re-used rod bolts only in near stock applications.

Replaced the rod bolts in my last L28et...since I didn’t know the engine setup.

You’re wise to replace head studs now...as well as any exhaust !

Do not dick with cam bearing towers any more than needed !!!

Read up on that subject as much as possible if planning to pull it apart.

Generally....early heads will have sunken valves/worn lifters.

If you come upon this....generally cheaper to get a head with hardened seats installed.

Read up on heads.

Check your crankshaft at the rear for a worn groove where the seal rides.

Check operation of fan clutch and cost of having original radiator repaired.

Purchase the best THICKEST set of plug wires possible.

Use a dab of anti seize on spark plugs for long life.

Look for a cast impeller water pump over a stamped

Purchase a high volume 240sx KA24 oil pump for a drop in solution.

I’m not a tech though

The high volume oil pump yto look for is the KA23E engine only in the S13. The KA24DE is an internal one.

Both the KA24E and KA24DE ion the D21 Hardbody were external and will work.

Know what to look for to ID as a high volume pump when you get or find one. They totally interchange all the way back through the Z and L series to the L16 engine and may have been swapped or put in the wrong box or worse, you have an idiot counterman.
