1972 510, 4 Speed Switch ID

Recommended Posts

Alright here is my issue, I pulled the 4 speed from my 510, it had two switches right beside each other on the passenger's side that to me look like the reverse light switch. It appears to be a neutral switch and reverse switch just trying to determine difference

One is stamped 153T, the other is stamped 143T, one has the button that protrudes slightly farther, but other than that I cannot see any difference.

Does anyone know if there are any differences in these switches? I am swapping over to a 5-speed and I want to fill the transmission with oil tomorrow, but don't want to install the wrong switch as it is below the fill line in the transmission.

The reverse switch will be low on the tail. The neutral switch would be high and on the striking rod shaft ahead of the shifter.

Neutral switch is not drilled out on this 4 speed tail. It would be up by the shifter. (you can see where) The hole at the bottom is for the reverse light switch.

The 5 speed will already have a reverse light switch in it so use it. Why would you try to use a 4 speed one?

Some switches close when in gear. Some are closed and open when placed in gear. I doubt the 4 speed switches will fit any 5 speed.

Well no harm trying. Check that the switch makes contact in the out or pointy end out position and is open or not contacting when pushed in. Threads will most likely be the same.

I assume this is a 71B 5 speed? from a Z car, 810/Maxima or 620 truck?? Lots of them around so try a want ad here...  http://community.ratsun.net/classifieds/category/5-drivetrain/?sort_key=date_added&sort_order=desc .  If it's a shorter dogleg, wayno might have one. It's small enough to mail.
