Hello from Cologne/Germany

Recommended Posts

Hey there Datsun-lovers,

I am Toni from Cologne/Germany and i recently bought a factory black 1969ish L510 sedan with red interior (i love that combination).
It is imported from Greece and comes with the small L13, drum brakes all around and obviously a lot of rust :)
I bought it from the same guy Markus/DarkBlack bought his green 1979 620 from (it is a very small Datsun community in Germany).

Plans so far? Fix the major rust holes and brakes, get some nice wheels, get it TÜV-inspected and have a blast driving this rust bucket.

cheers

Well welcome to Ratsun, Tonito.

L510 yes, the smaller engines were designated this way. N America got L16s so were PL510.

Well the '68s were the only 510 with the wipers that swung down and met in the middle and it and the '69 had the 'arrow' style front amber side markers. So far so good. The '68 was unique also in having the license plate lamp mounted in the bumper so yours may have been swapped on. The '69 and up had a lamp on both sides of the license plate so look inside the trunk, maybe the holes were patched over? I know a guy in Canada that has an L14 and I don't know where he got it. Has '69 and up rear lights.

I wouldn't call this a rust bucket, looks nice.

Toni, there's nothing like far away, foreign stories! Totally like your Datsun which is in great shape! I totally like that 1300 engine and side marker sign! Great to see them in Germany, also!!! Hope to keep us posted on what you do to it. Greetings from Los Angeles, California, brother!

Thanks for your warm welcome.  :hug:

@King Rat:
Good to know some of the small details that can give a hint of the production year.
I will check the panel from the inside of the trunk.

I will also start a build thread when i start working on the car (when it is becoming warmer) - but at first i have to fix my daily (broken generator) and my diesel Land Cruiser won't start either (gremlin in the pre-glow system is my guess) and the TÜV-inspection (2-year period) is overdue since a couple of months.  :angel:

greetings from Germany

Willkommen Tonito.

Ich spreche ein bissen Deutsch.

As with many of your fellow German citizens your English is excellent!

I hope you enjoy The Ratsun website, and I, as I am sure others will, look forward to seeing a build thread and more pictures!

Tschuss.

@RW:
Thanks ... yeah we all have to go through english courses in school, but english was a big part during my studies also.
Interesting to see that foreign people learn German. Live is too short for that complicated language.  :devil:

I think 240zness is referring to the cars origin. It is imported from Greece which can explain the okay-ish state it is in now.

Hi there,

i did my first mod - bumper removal :) and checked the car from underneath.
Almost all rubber parts and bushings are gone or in bad condition and i took some pictures of the worst rust spots.
Everything seems fine on the mechanical side. Only one u joint has a little play, the drum brakes and some hard brake lines need some attention.

I can not promise to keep up the pace in posting pics and progress updates. Now i need to order a lot of tools, parts and panels from 'murica, 'straya or some other shady ebay seller but my bank account says FU  <_<

Danke Tonito, ich bin sehr gut also (sorry my German grammar and spelling is very rusty).

“Shady ebay seller”; spoken and written like only a true native Australian could have :)
