82 200sx z22

So I just came up on a 82 datsun 200sx with the z22 fuel injection. I can get it to start just fine the first time it revs and idles fine but after about 30 40 seconds it jus does and won't start back up for about 15 minutes. Can someone e point me in the right direction

Oh, and it sounds like a bad fuel filter.

 Pull coil wire off distributor cap and hold near ground. Have someone try to start engine. Is there any spark????

 

No Spark................ coil may be overheating and needs to cool down to start again. Replace.

Yes there's spark.... probably not ignition related.

 

Fuel? just cut to the chase and replace the fuel filter. Probably due a decade ago anyway.

FYI, the car has two. Unlikely both would fail at the same time. Secondary should be enough to keep it running.

 

Unless of course if the secondary coil died years ago and no one noticed...   :rofl:

Well you could still confirm the spark to eliminate the module is over heating. If you have spark then it's fuel related

Or get the module tested for free..... Make them run the test a couple times to ensure it gets warm.
