A header and a cast iron exhaust manifold do the same thing.

That's like saying a sandal and a combat boot do the same thing. Yes, they do. But there's a reason they have different names.   ^_^

This was the genesis of my original post. Things have specific names for a reason. So people will know what you mean when you say certain words. This current trend of lazy writing is leading to lazy thinking, and possibly worse...

99 percent of these L block engines don't have the flow or power to require a header, the only reason I have one on my work truck is because I didn't know any better, and since that day I have collected so many L block headers that I see no reason to not use them up before converting back over to the stock exhaust manifold which works just as good if not better than most of the headers you can buy for an L block and it will last almost forever.

Well I agree 'header' is correct for a four cylinder and not headers. You'll have to agree that when the Nissan engineers designed the low restriction 4 into 2 exhaust for the L16 they made the header out of cast iron so it would last forever. It even separates the firing cylinders into pairs 1 & 4 and 3 & 2. Not many manifolds go the this much trouble.

the Veitcong had sandals

The US army had combat boots   both worked

Had to quote

This reminds me of a similar truism.

When the US went to space, they spent a ton of $ developing a pen that would work in space.

The Soviets took a pencil.

Is it basically an iron header? Yes. Am I going to call it a header? No.   ^_^

Some do, plenty of them do not. Just FYI

Rim... The round metal thing that the tire is mounted onto that bolts to the axle.

Tire... The round rubber thing that mounts onto the rim.

Wheel..... a tire mounted on a rim is called a WHEEL.

Now if I ask... what is this....

...and you say tire or rim you are a dumb ass.

You don't call this a 510... it's a grill........ from a 510.

This.

Ditch those ugly lumps of cast iron and header all the L series. I swear all I see on this site is people ranting about how the stock manifolds are the best thing since sliced bread.

I did that once and will NEVER do it again. The stock manifold is more than adequate, even for more than normal use. You would have to go a long way before needing a header other than for looks, you got me there.

I bought a long tube for the same price as a couple of those dumb manifold gaskets that almost always leak.

I assume you mean gain hp which is not really the end goal, cause ya know, datsun...

On a stock engine probably nothing as the stock exhaust is fine. I couldn't tell the difference on my L16.  Do not expect much. The more the engine is modified the more exhaust has to get out and a header might help.
