Is differential gasket necessary?

Don't know.

I've contemplated this.

Sealer would probably seal, if everything was absolutely squeaky clean, and the small difference in the axle alignment may not make a difference.

But Rock-Auto has the Felpro gaskets for cheap, and if you don't need it for going to work Monday, just do it right.

The H-190 gasket is no longer available, or I couldn't get one.

Try #38320-B3000 maybe some dealer or auto parts has one hanging on the wall.

Did the H-190 in my 620 and two H-165s in my 710s with sealer NOT that RTV silicone shit. Grt real sealer. Mine was Permatex, it was blue like toothpaste and so thick it was an effort to squeeze out of the tube. Let sit 10-20 min and assemble. No problems.

I just use cereal boxes to make this gasket, they are about the same thickness as the stock gasket.

For paper gaskets, next time you're at Costco, find the purple cat litter bags. Grab a sheet of the paper board they use between layers. Free, plentiful, and easy to work with. Also, run by the paper towel and tissue section... grab some of those separator sheets. They make great general purpose template material (but not as good at gaskets as the sheets with the cat litter).

While we're at it. I use one of these....

Round for bolt holes and tight curves that are too hard for scissors. Every tool box should have one. With this and a McDonalds drink cup you could change a leaking water pump gasket on the side of the road.
