....maybe u are too young to remember but do you remember when using your atm was free and after a awhile banks found ways to make tons of money by charging you for all kinds of vs, crap, similar to photofucket. They get you hooked and then they fuck in the ass.

I have not used an ATM card in 20 years, before that I used it several times a week, I thought it was the greatest thing ever invented at one time, but when money is so accessible one spends it faster.

Find another photo hosting service Primeredhotrod, I use Postimage and use the "hotlink for forums" option second option from the bottom after you hit the share button.

You might have seen me driving one of these around Vancouver Wa over the years.

I have set up a website, stormyhill.com, and pay for hosting it using GoDaddy.com.  By the way, there are currently four pictures if you go to http://www.stormyhill.com/, the white, and green 521 trucks are links to the beginning of two threads in Ratsun, of my work on the two trucks.  The other two pictures of a dog I had, and my boat, do not link to anything.

Obviously, I can post pictures, and almost anything else on the server space I am renting.

I then use a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program, Filezilla to upload my pictures to my rented server space.  Filezilla opens up two windows on your computer, one window lists the directory structure on your computer, the other window list the directory structure on your server space.  Then you can transfer single photos, multiple photos, or directories from or to your computer, and the server by using the drag and drop just like transferring from one directory, (or folder) on your computer.

Once the pictures are on the rented server space, you can use the green image link in the header of the edit window on community.ratsun.net

I click the green image tag, the "image properties" window pops up, I enter the full file name for the image, Click OK, and this happens.

Wayno, what do you do when that host goes belly up too?

I could not give a rats ass about that company anymore, one person that visted the company described the place as a ghost of what it once was, so this scumbag CEO has fucked his own employees also, my photos don't show to others and I cannot see most of others photos either, and once you quit paying we won't be seeing yours either, this fact alone is devastating the the internet itself, lots of info is lost because of this one scumbag, and if others follow suit???, this company has to go down just to keep others from doing the same thing.

Right now if I search 521 kingcab a lot of photos that show of mine are hosted with Photolame, but others are now showing up more as being hosted thru Postimage and Picasa(no longer exists), they(Picasa) still show when visiting site they originated from unlike Photolame where only that one or a couple others show, the rest do not show, I believe the goal here for all forums should be when someone does an internet search that no photos hosted by Photolame will show up in the search anymore, if none of their photos show up they are history.

Looking at the Big Picture if a forum wants their forum to be complete anymore they need to host their own photos now, MGE and the Nissan Diesel Forums do this, and when someone like me starts posting hosted photos, well the owners on both forums messaged me and asked me to use the in house photo host as they said the photos will disappear if I don't, well that is exactly what happened, these owners seen the future before it happened, thier forums are not littered with broken links.

Yes there is advertising on the MGE forum, but I only see forum members ads because of my ad blockers(I have 4 different kinds of ad and spy blockers), now there is a new spy in the Windows operating system itself, it is called Cortana(white circle on lower task bar).

That didn't answer my question. I'm talking about the free host you're using now. When it shuts down or starts demanding money, then what? I am not saying stick with photobucket. I am with DanielC. The only way to preserve your photos is hosting them with your own domain. That way, even if your host dies as long as you have a backup you can host them elsewhere and point your domain at the new host. The domain is never married to the host, so you can always keep your links working. With 3rd party hosts you don't control the domain nor directory structure so you can't fix bad links without editing every link posted.

There is no advertising on Ratsun and the advertising on other forums pays for the forums.  Ratsun is ad free and free to its users.  I would rather not be able to post pictures from my computer to Ratsun and see Ratsun stay ad free.  I will set up my own website for hosting pictures when I get back to work.  Until then I am using PoasImage to host my pictures.

This is not a bargain basement forum with very few features. Yes the forum has grown and earned a monitory value and while it could be whored out for advertising revenue, this was one thing Jeff was adamantly and absolutely against when he started it up. Ratsun was to be like a garage where you can learn and share while wrenching on your Datsuns. A place of knowledge and shenanigans and talking Datsuns. A hang out for the like minded and a self filling fridge of cold beer. The Ratsun forum cost is shouldered by Jeff and with several added options the yearly dues are not cheap.

And when you lose interest and quit paying, or you pass away like all of us will someday and nobody pays the photos will disappear.

There are lots of photos on here that disappeared before Photolame became lame, like most if not all of Sealiks photos, there are a few on here that went the extra thousand miles and have been replacing them but they will disappear again some day, but 95 percent of us are not going to even try, I don't imagine that Bob3 is going to try either, and he has one of the most well known/viewed strictly Datsun content threads on this forum.

To answer your question, my photos are going to disappear if others follow Photolames lead, if you pay for hosting in the end it is always going to end with the same result, broken photos, the only way to keep all the photos in all the threads for as long as the forum exists is to have the forum host the photos, that is the only way, MGE and the NissanDiesel forums did it, and they were hardly impacted when this all went down, the MGE forum didn't even really talk about photo issues at all.

I will repeat this again, Picasa closed its doors and became "Google Images" or something like that, but all my Picasa photos/links are still good and they closed a few years ago, if Photolame had went about it the way Picasa did most this Photolame shit would not likely even exist even though I have been calling them Photolame since the last change in late 2013, they should have done it differently but they are greedy and in the end I hope this CEO becomes known for taking down the largest photo hosting service on this planet.

Paying outside sources to host photos on a forum is not the answer, and it never will be the answer, the photos will all eventually disappear unless kept alive by another party with no ties to the original poster of the photo, like on a forum that hosts its own photos.

It is too late now, the damage has been done, a lot has been lost and it will never be recovered, a lot of the missing photos are from members that are not even on here anymore and have not been here for a while, them photos are lost forever.

Getting an idea.. What are those up to now ?

I believe that was said to me in confidence, or I'll assume it was, so send him a private message and perhaps you both can discuss it. I think that it's a hell of a thing that he does for us all and asks nothing in return. For love of Datsuns and this site, ]2eDeYe and I (and others) have been here over 10 years herding you kittens...
