Dirtyowlnumber4
My car is screaming like a banshee and revving really high but it will go back to norm if I push the carb fwd and hold it there. Seems like it's drawing air in through the gasket, but the bolts are as tight as I can get them. I was wondering if it would be all right to put red rtv or something on it. Quote Link to comment
racerx
Sounds like vacuum leak. Stock carb or Webber carb. While car is running on idle, Spray carb cleaner around base and area and listen carefully. If rpm goes up, then vacuum leak. Don't gorilla tight the hold down bolts. Base can get warped, then you will have to get a new one. Quote Link to comment
Dirtyowlnumber4
It is a Weber, yeah I tightened one of the bolts and it stopped for a second, then I tightened another one and it started again and I couldn't fix it again. I'll spray some cleaner on it. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
In order to rev up it needs gas AND air. Air alone from a leaking gasket won't do it. Is this with the engine fully warmed up??? Is the choke on? Quote Link to comment
Dirtyowlnumber4
It seemed like it started happening once it got warm I haven't had much time too look at it though. Choke isn't hooked up. If I push down on the air filter the whistling stops and it revs down to 800rpm, otherwise it's up at like 1500 and whistling like a bitch. All the bolts are tight I dunno Quote Link to comment
racerx
Did u spray cleaner around carb base? Quote Link to comment
Dirtyowlnumber4
Naw I had to go to work I'll try it tomorrow though Quote Link to comment
racerx
Spray at one spot at a time. Easier to diagnose location. Quote Link to comment
Dirtyowlnumber4
Are you saying that a vacuum leak anywhere on the engine could be causing it? I had the shop stop all the vacuum hoses up. Quote Link to comment
racerx
More like your carb area. Quote Link to comment
racerx
But like I said hard to tell till you spray carb cleaner around carb area Quote Link to comment
Dirtyowlnumber4
K I sprayed carb cleaner around the gaskets it seems like it's leaking where that carb meets the adapter I'll pop it of and have a look they sent me like 3 gaskets so i could try another one Quote Link to comment

racerx
While you sprayed the area, did the RPM go up? This is the best way to tell if you have a vacuum leak. Quote Link to comment
Dirtyowlnumber4
Yah sprayed it again found the leak between the adapter and the manifold and replaced the gasket it's good now Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
The 2 small bolts that recessed into the weber adapter always loosen as they do not have room for lock washers. Dissemble and put some loctite on them. Quote Link to comment
