WillardTheGrey
Hello, My wife thinks I've lost my mind, I recently purchased a 1975 620 4x4 automatic as a pretty truck to hunt/cruise with. I went out looking for my 13 year old nephews first truck and found my new Datsun instead. Also to be a tinker project with my nephew and son. Trying to figure out what parts were used in converting it to 4 wheel drive. I'm hoping to tap the mass knowledge of this forum. Also if someone can point me in the direction of instructions on adjusting the high idle of a 3236 Weber carburetor currently I have no high idle other than my left foot. Many thanks in advance. datzenmike
Low Manufacturing did conversions. (or most of them) There were probably east and west coast facilities, maybe more. Dana and Jeep parts were used. Weld and fabrication quality varied. Quote Link to comment
Farmer
That truck was for sale a couple years ago on the Oregon Coast craigs. Loved to bought it Quote Link to comment
WillardTheGrey
Racerx, Perfect, my Google-foo was weak. King Rat, That's what I had read but wasn't sure if it was a period/dealer conversion or more recent. Farmer, Yep it was listed again in December and only an hour away from me. Very stoked I was able to talk the guy down to something I could afford. Thanks all for the replies. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Post pics so it can be seen. Most of us won't follow links. There is a guy on here who used to work at Low when they were building the 4x4s in the 70s. He might be of some help. Quote Link to comment

Stoffregen Motorsports
Looks like a Jeep D30 front axle, probably from a early/mid 70's CJ. The t-case is a D20. Both are easy to get parts for. The front brakes may be a different story. If they have been converted to 6 lug, you will need to figure out how they did that and what parts they used. There are a lot of aftermarket upgrades for both the axle and the t-case. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
]2eDeYe has a 620 4x4 and there was a new member that worked for Low years ago.. Quote Link to comment
abbylind
Yup looks like a low conversion. I had it on my 74 620. Used to hang out the door way looking at the front drive shaft to make sure I was out of four wheel... Quote Link to comment
WillardTheGrey
It does have 6-lug hubs front & rear and has drum breaks all the way around. Part of why I'm trying to ascertain exactly what parts were used, for when I convert it to disk. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
You can convert the front axle to 6 lug disc brake using a mix of Jeep, Ford and Chevy components. Or you may be able to do the conversion using Jeep J series pickup parts, which were 6 lug. The key lies in the spindle. There are about 5 different spindles - short, long, small and big bearing, 5 and 6 bolt (where it bolts to the knuckle). Call the guys at Parts Mike in Auburn, CA. They are good with this stuff and should be able to sell you all the parts. http://www.partsmike.com/ Quote Link to comment
