Help on buying a new Carb for a12

Hello guys!

This is my first post on my fathers 93' Nissan 1200 Pickup.
Years ago the engine was swapped with a bigger one that has a lot more power. (Originally it had a a12, now it has a a14 with the a12 transmission).

Recently, the engine is having an issue where  it starts and immediately (if you release the gas pedal) it won't idle and it will shut down.

This was happening before, the shop took the carb apart and cleaned it. The problem was corrected until a few weeks later it just started doing it again.

I think I should buy a new carb, all carbs I can find locally are used.

I have a few pictures of the engine and the carb:

Can I use this carb that I found on ebay/amazon:

If not, what do you guys recommend?

Thanks!!

'93? looks much older...

A real carb would be a couple of hundred dollars new so that one is very likely a Chinese knock off. I look at it as 'you get what you pay for'. Also it's for an A12 not an A14 so the jets may be wrong. I would get a local one for that price and rebuild it and keep yours for a spare. It's most likely a setting or adjustment that is incorrect on it. Try eBay for a Nissan Factory Service Manual  for the Cherry. Maybe a B-210 that has the A14 carb info in it.

Kit?

Next time you start it, take the top off the air filter and look into it. Is the choke on? Is it a manual choke? Is it connected properly?

With the choke on, the fast idle should set, allowing the idle to increase to warm it up sooner.

The factory manual will also give you the use and location of all the hoses and wiring.

My God ! That's the most beautiful automobile that I've seen all year.

Where are you located to have a LHD Sunny pickup?  Central America ?

A Weber 32/36  DGV-Series  carb is hard to beat but you'd need to be sure that it is for sure a Spanish manufacture Carb and not a Asian knock-off.

Also you'd be best advised to acquire the carb from a reputable supplier that can supply the proper adapter plate and can jet it for the little A-Series engine.

Welcome, You'll find good info here.

The legal papers say '93, I have no way of knowing if its older. I assume that the body didn't change much design wise.

I was looking at the carb yesterday and I believe the filter that was installed is not getting a correct seal.

(I am never going back to that trashy shop, jesus christ).

I believe that my carb is dirty and needs some cleaning.

The engine was working well and it packs a punch.

Thank you!!

LHD B120 or Datsun 1200 (how they call it here) are a pretty darn common truck in the Dominican Republic.

We have spent the last 5 months doing a whole body/paint job removing the rust and bringing it back to its former glory.

more pictures of the truck

If the shop rebuilt the carb, isn't there some kind of warranty?

Yeah, sort of. I'll talk to the guy to see if he can correct the issue. I don't think it should be a difficult repair.

Going through the carb and cleaning and/or installing a carb kit should help a lot. Sounds possibly like air leak below the butterfly or an obstructed idle jet. Check all the gaskets; a little squirt of carb cleaner or WD-40 between lower carb and head/intake mating area while running should cause speed-up if you have an air leak. Check the throttle shaft for excessive wear; that's a below-butterfly air leak. Check all hoses for air leak.

Beautiful little truck. Like having a favorite pair of pants with wheels on them.

These trucks, Utes, Bakies were made worldwide from 1971 until 2007.

A couple of things; there are vacuum lines that aren't connected as well as the wire in the one photo. From your description it sounds like the motor is pretty solid. Just get the carb straight and you should golden. A vacuum leak in and of itself will make the car idle poorly.

As the others have said the truck looks great, nice work.
