Hey everyone. So have pulled out my 3 speed column shift for my 65 410 and was wondering what options there are for alternative gearboxes that bolt up to the e1? I know there is a 4 speed but what else is there? There are not many 4 speeds available here in Australia. Anything newer? Or possibly mgb?

What about brake master cylinder options. Is there a later model one that will fit. From research I have done there are not many 7/8” masters available.

Finally, what mods are required to fit mgb extractors? Do they fit under the stock intake of an e1? Or do you need to fit the mgb intake also?

Thanks!

I don't know anything about E1 and how much alike they are to J13,,, but here goes .

I believe you can stick mgb exhaust manifold on without changing anything but , the mgb has two outlets and are directed at crossmember so some unique exhaust pipe action is required... AND i think it hits the fuel pump so electric one is needed , check out this link..

http://www.cardomain...966-datsun-410/

He uses the mgb intake ( and it's a J15 ) but i think he does that for the wow factor more than having too.  I haven't completely read through his blog in a few ,, but think he actually switches back to downdraft setup .

click on box with pictures as there is more than just the ones you first see on screen.

Trannies i don't know ,, never tried sticking one on a MGB engine or vice versa,, someone probably should ,,, for science.

In this link towards the bottom there is mention and picture of rear plate with gasket of some kind purchased(?) at a British auto parts or something.. The guy says it's a direct fit,,

Thanks! Some good info there so will have a good read through.

Haven’t worked out how to post pics on this site yet but you can look at the wix page I set up for it. Hasn’t been much put on there but gives you an idea of what the car is like. Https://andrewpharman.wixsite.com/datsunp410build

There were J18s in Mexico and I believe 5 speeds in some cars that had them. This would likely have been mid-late 70s?

A few months ago , Farmer was selling a couple of unfinished short blocks so i asked my "pushrod" guy if he could get gaskets, bigger pistons, and rings and such,, and he turned me on to a machinist that had built a J15 to be shipped to Alaska a few years ago.. Apparently they decided to buy new forklift ( or something) so it was never picked up....   So i am in the "process" of saving up enough change to buy that..

Man,  If i could get my hands on a J18 i think i would completely abandon my plan for a "modern" engine swap..  i bet something like that would get that tiny little can barreling down the freeway effortlessly.  .

These J engines get such a bad rap for being pukey,,  but honestly with how i drive my 411,, the change in rear gearing for freeway driving was the tits more than power at launch.. Cuz light turns green,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, look both ways a couple more times,,,,,,,,,,, slowly roll out.

Lightly modded would be fine but they only have 3 main bearings. L series are 5. Nothing like displacement though.

Is it sacrilege to put a Mazda 12a in a 410? Hehe. I at least have one of these and a gearbox in my garage.... I don’t really want to cut up the trans tunnel etc to fit it though.

I personally HATE rotaries ,,, i went through a rotary "phase" in the eighties,,, regardless of the giant mound of gold i could have sold them for now,,,,,  i'm glad i sold them.

That being said.. Any motor that gets this stylish little bastard on the streets is the perfect one to use... The only sacrilege would be if you butcher up car and didn't finish .. If you don't think you are positive you got the skills ,,,,, back away from the Datsun.. :D

look down farther in this section, and there's a dude installed a fuel injected Geo metro ( not sure what that is in your country)  hooked to a Suzuki Samurai trans into a 411 and it looks great in there.. I think the Datsun A motor is the "preferred" swap over here.

Whatever you do start a build thread and post pictures so we can steal ideas as what-not . It's a great way to motivate yourself even if it's just for fake internet points..

Me,,, i'm going 4Age ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, someday

In the USA, Datsunparts.com lists a 7/8 master cylinder for the 1500 cc 310 roadster with the warning that the outlet is on the wrong side [for the JDM auto] but if fit exactly my US export RL411sedan.  If you are willing to fabricate replacement brake lines this may be your salvation.  I ordered the catalog part.  It came in a JDM OEM box and bolted up to my RL411 brake system exactly!  It has the roadster smaller fluid reservoir but this should suit your needs exactly.  If not, swap the small fluid reservoir with the one from your existing master cylinder.

Here's link to the Suzuk motor into 410/411 thread. Good work here.

Like it a looott !!!

http://community.rat...st-engine-swap/

Not recommending this. were it mine, I'd stay with the E/J series motore.

Better to have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy !!

Yeah I appreciate what your saying. I have had a few rotaries and unfortunately got the bug when I was 19.. still love them and have one that ‘could’ be rebuilt and slotted into the 410. BUT I have just repainted the engine and gearbox and have the stock e1 back in the engine bay so this will be a way off (if at all). Will keep dreaming until that day..

Cheers. Outlet will be on wrong side as mentioned. Bought a rebuild kit for the time being.

Cheers guys
