Wow... so many cool things with that z.... how original do you plan on keeping it?... I think the preservation route would be best to see... especially with all that paper work..... again nice score....
I think your making everyone jealous who reads this.... true one of a kind find...

Damn...you got lucky with that z. Very nice. Night and day after the wash and clean up. I didn't see any major rust? Did u do a compression test?

Thanks guys!  I haven't done a compression test.  Currently my plans are to remove the side mouldings, put new wheels/tires on it, and lower it some.  I also purchased replacement interior pieces for things that were broken out or worn.  I won't be throwing anything away and it should be very clean. From there I will polish the paint and repair the left rear fender.  One day I will probably paint it since it has already had one repaint I am not worried about preserving the original.  If I do paint it I plan to leave the inside and engine in original paint.  I am pretty sure it will look close to spotless with meticulous cleaning and preservation

and almost no rust.  There is some behind the drivers (right side :) ) door but that is about it.

It all started w a conversation with your brother in law...you never know. But if its me, I would definitely do a compression check and if okay, just change the oil, fluids and tune up for now. I would not put another type of engine in there like some peeps.

just do a valve lash adjustment if needed

new fuel filter and ck it often incase of rust chunks getting to the carb

Throw on some Weber sidedrafts, Rising Sun hood.... call it good

Yes, valve adjust is always good...drain your gas tank and check inside really good sat too long.

Exciting stuff. Removed the trim tonight and took pictures of the cleaned up Transmission. Also learned where to find my build date (seat belts) 9/1970!! Also learned how many were made for each year and VINs. Pretty cool.

This is the best thing I'll see all year , or I guess your progress will be cool to watch.

I'm glad someone like you got it, love what your doing so far. And I know where to find one if I have a 100k lying around some day.

Thing is perfect.

So I got the clutch in but my phone died so I only managed one pic..

Not only did my resurfaced flywheel and clutch kit arrive, but my wheels came in so on my way home from work Friday I got tires mounted and picked up lug nuts. Friday night I installed the wheels and had a friend help with the transmission. After that I called it a night

Saturday morning I tackled a bunch of little stuff to be prepped for driving...I was so anxious but I took my time. I fixed a plug on the center console and carefully removed the radio, speakers, and unnecessary wires....that radio was a PITA but I'm thankful because I got it out without damaging anything:

One other thing I had to figure out was why the drivers window was jumping out of the track and not working properly....so I removed the door panel and found this.

Are you kidding me?! Take what looks like a perfectly good door and do hack job welding to try and mount the tracks and regulator?? I don't understand, anyways this will have to wait...

My friend peter came over and helped me bleed the clutch and then it was ready!!!! So amazing!!!! I drove it about 15 miles to a couple friends houses and then it wouldn't start because I fouled the plugs. Thankfully my friend Ralph had some spares so I could get it fired and make it back home, looking into it it appears I was driving with the choke wide open...tomorrow I will double check and get some more miles in. Because I had to watch my youngest (2) he got to ride with me so that was prettty cool. I must admit driving a RHD came as second nature and it felt so cool...
