Kathand
What's up, ladies and gents? My name's Nathan, and I just moved down to Tucson in June. I wanted something easier to work on other than my MR2 (and more spacious for carrying music equipment) so I picked this thing up about a month after I moved. It's a 1981 Datsun 210/B310/Sunny/whatever with a manual transmission. I originally wanted to swap an SR into it for fun, but I decided I'd rather go with a KA. I've heard it's a pretty straightforward swap but I wanted to set everything straight before I start, y'know? I've been reading all the other 210 posts and this is what I've gathered so far in terms of what I'll need: -a KA and tranny, of course -H190 rear end -upgraded brakes, probably from a 200sx -front coilovers and new shocks and springs in the rear because everything there now is shot Aside from that, I'm not sure exactly what else this'll entail. Will the current drive shaft work? What'll I have to do with the crossmember? Will the rear end swap be incompatible/mess with the suspension at all? Do you think my mom would approve? Here's the little devil, by the way: The thing is really shabby but it runs and that's all I really asked for. Electrical problems galore but I can sort those out. Thanks in advance! datzenmike
Try to find a 2wd D21 Hardbody for the 5 speed, it's the shortest and the same as the SR (for strength) and the KAs used in the S13/14 The '82-'83 S110 200sx had an H-190 with rear disc brake in it. It was also used one year ('94) on the S12 200sx. Find some '79-'84 280zx front struts for the front. They are shorter and already have massive vented rotors and calipers. Get the 15/16 master to match if '79-'81. You may need 14" to properly clear them. You'll need your 210 top hats and springs and swap the lower coil mounts on using split collars. They are still height adjustable but cost about $30. The rear springs I wouldn't bother with, they either work or are broken. If anything is shot it will be the old shocks. Get new ones for it.. Here's the little devil, by the way (tried getting the pictures here in the post but couldn't figure it out ): https://imgur.com/a/48uYp I was lazy lol, I should probably try figuring out how to make them show on the post... datzenmike
I counted how long it took me to click your link copy the location and post in the post... 8 seconds. Do the same. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
But...were those metric seconds? Or American seconds? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
They were socialist seconds. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Then it would have e only taken you one second. Because the other 7 would have been distributed to those that did not have the time to get their own. Amiright? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It was a collective effort and myself and my fellow comrades averaged... eight seconds and all were under ten seconds. Links are for bourgeois running dogs. Only real pictures are satisfactory for consumption by the proletariat. Quote Link to comment
afracer
You will need a custom driveshaft. Also a new efi fuel pump and at least 5/16" fuel line from the tank to engine bay. The stumpy 5 speed if you can find one will make it so the shifter comes out in the original hole, otherwise you have to cut a new hole. The KA is heavy has timing chain issues, and too gutless for me, whereas the SR is hard to find in good condition and finnicky if you mod it or over rev without the right mods. I have a 300hp SR in my Datsun, it hauls butt and gets 35 mpg but being a tight fit makes maintenance kind of a pain. A built or turbo A series can be plenty fun too though! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The car KAs are heavy but the Hardbody not so much. Blocks are different and they don't have the crank girdle. Quote Link to comment
Kathand
I counted how long it took me to click your link copy the location and post in the post... 8 seconds. Do the same. Yeah, I'm painfully slow on the draw sometimes. Forgot about the "image" button. Got them in the post now. Also, thanks for more info! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You should have seen me 12 years ago. I just experimented and tried things till it finally worked. Quote Link to comment
Kathand
So, there are a lot of D21s for sale for cheap. Couldn't I just use the differential from one instead of finding a 200SX? Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Too wide and six lug. Also leaf spring, where i think you 4link Quote Link to comment
