volkswagner
Hhhmm, looks like we forgot to mention that we changed the build goals for the car. We watched some footage of the evergreen enduro and decided that our little 510 was just to pristine to but through that much contact. Watching the footage the enduro looked more like a glorified demo derby. With that decision we had to find a new race, we all wanted side-by-side action and really wanted to be on a real road course. Jeff and I have had our eyes on the "lucky dog" series for a while. It has great reviews and is very accessible. Even better, it's virtually an unlimited class of racing which means we could build the car how we want / how is convenient for us, instead of to a performance rule set.https://www.racelucky.com/ We're hoping to make it to the April 21-22 Ridge Motorsports event as well as the June 2-3 Pacific Raceways event. Wish us luck! 1 Quote Link to comment
volkswagner
Between holidays and that damn flu taking its toll on the team, we've had a slow month. Jeff, couldn't resist a quick respray of the engine bay. A nice coat of epoxy before some mud. Stripped what was left of the interior and pulled the door skins so we can clean up the rust on the cage and inspect the welds. In general the cage checks out. We got a couple tubes to replace for better clearance but it's way better than starting from scratch! and the surface rust seems to have not done any harm. Welds actually look surprisingly well done. 2 Quote Link to comment
tdaaj
So you are dropping out now? Did you guys not know what the Enduro entailed when you started this? Quote Link to comment
thegreg
Fun thread to watch guys! Wish my car friends still had passion to build anything. Lazy turds. Quote Link to comment
volkswagner
So you are dropping out now? Did you guys not know what the Enduro entailed when you started this? Not dropping out, stepping up. We want to race with other people who respect the cars their driving. As opposed to having I-beams welded on the side of their metro. Just want non-contact. It's not even just about the car, cars are replaceable. We each only get one racecar driver body to work with. 1 Quote Link to comment
carterb
Between Christmas and the flu. Progress has been a little slow, but we were back at it last night. I was tasked with replacing the smashed up rear taillight panel and making the gas tank fit. When we set the tank in place, it was about 6" too far back due to extraneous roll cage tubing. Once those were removed, we could fit the tank in the required location. We will be redoing the trunk floor too since it had an aluminum sheet riveted in around the little fuel cell that was in the car before. Sorry guys - you didn't make the team. Jeff and Sam worked on replacing the rotten passengers side floor and prepping the underbody and fender wells for POR15 Here's Sam in the cage. Looks like he's working on "The Great Escape" I don't think we'll miss this. Replacement floor cut to fit. Jeff does nice work. So does Sam. 2 Quote Link to comment

carterb
Tonight we had a four man crew again. Paul was sanding brake lines prepping them for paint. No photographic evidence - you'll just have to take my word for it. He left early with Jeff's trailer to conduct a couple TOP SECRET datsun missions. We decided to pull out the aluminum sheet that filled the back of the car as we needed better access to the roll cage to make modifications and would also need access to the front of the gas tank and fuel lines. Here's Jeff working on the cage. I think Sam lost a bet or something because he spent half the night laying on his back wire wheeling the underside of the car getting it ready for POR15. Meanwhile I was able to fit the replacement tail pan and weld it in place. First time ever doing this kind of work. Really fun stuff! Jeff! You're making a career out of that tube! Sam, good to see you up top again. I think Jeff's trying to lock Sam in the cage. Grinding done Bar #2? Or is Jeff just sharpening his pencil? 2 Quote Link to comment

carterb
Painting the car is the last item on our to do list. But even so - we are excited about the prospect. We need more ideas though... http://community.ratsun.net/topic/73094-help-us-design-the-james-boswell-race-paint-job/ 1 Quote Link to comment
