Hey what’s up everyone, my name is Nick. This is my first post here on Ratsun, and I figured I’d do the proper thing and do a quick introduction. I just picked up a 1970 521 a couple weeks ago and I’m loving it so far! It’s in pretty decent shape with very minimal rust and just over 62k miles on the odometer. The paint is a little rough, I believe it was resprayed at some point in its life but it’s a pretty shotty job. I’m looking forward to messing around with this truck and sharing my progress along the way. First I plan to lower it a bunch and put on a set of rally wheels that i just picked up last weekend and much more to follow after! I’ve got some pics on my phone, but it’s been a while since I’ve posted pics on a forum. As soon as I figure it out again I’ll post some up!

Hey Nick, welcome to Ratsun.

We have oodles of 521 owners here with build threads, projects and knowledge of any problems you might come across so don't be shy and ask. Lowering is probably one of the most documented modifications on any truck. The odometer only goes to 99,999 before returning to 00,000 and starting again. Just saying to look at brake pedal and driver's seat for abnormal wear for a truck with 60K on it.

Do you have a photo hosting site? other than Photobucket??? If not can I recommend .. https://imgur.com/  ..??  although there are many more with different features. Now you can post pictures of your 521 hear, because we all like pictures. Besides if you have a problem a picture is worth a thousand words of explaining.

Can’t wait to see the truck. If it’s been sitting for a while your going to need to do brakes. Rockauto has everything you’ll need for brakes but you’ll have to use 620 parts, mostly. They all work. Only trouble I had was that some wheel cylinders rubbed on the drums so you’ll need to replace them with a new ones too.

Thanks for the info and kind words guys. Just for now I plan to lower it and throw on the rally wheels, eventually I’d like to do a swap but that’s further down the road. I’m just glad I found one on the east coast, I searched for about a year until I found this one.

I had never actually seen one in person until I went to look at this truck, I was very surprised at how small they really are. I’m a bigger guy, (6’0” 240lbs) and it’s definitely a snug fit lol I don’t see how someone over 6 foot can drive one of these trucks comfortably.

The odds are the tag on the door jam pillar will say this is a late 1970 truck, likely built after August 1970.

Keep the bench seat, look under the seat at the front seat mounts, are there spacers between the seat rail and the mount rail?

The bench seat has the thinnest back, no bucket seat will give you more room.

Very nice start on the truck, but that s4 is the shit! Love it!

Thanks man! The S4 is a great car, this is my third and I’ve loved every one of them!

Welcome and nice truck. Park it inside and put that VW outside.

Lol VW! Just cuz Volkswagen owns Audi doesnt mean it is one! Although, I have had thoughts of swapping the two and letting the Datsun take the garage. We shall see!
