You, those are the forward stops. Would affect Rev, 3rd, 5th ?

Didn't seem to effect those gears at all no matter how hard I shifted it. Just 4th.

It was a good learning experience. Still have a little more to put together before it's ready to go in a car.. but it shifts fine now. We'll see if it grinds or does anything weird once its in a vehicle.

On a dogleg, the front cover is the stop for 1st, 3rd and 5th.

The stops for the rest of the gears are in the tailhousing.

Reverse and 1st are.... reversed right at the shifter striking rod and the shift rod.

On the underside of the rear case is a large nut that holds a post with a lever on it up inside. You've probably all seen this nut on the doglegs. This lever turns a forward motion to a reverse on the reverse/first shift rod to give the distinctive reverse above first.

It has been so long since I've rebuilt a dogleg (I hate that term), that I honestly don't remember.

Explain that nut and post again.

4/5 are on this lever mechanism in mounted to the rear of the tranny via a large nut. If I had a picture hosting service worth a shit.. I'd post it. (working on it)

This was the reason the tranny got stuck in gear the first time around

you can see reverse is pretty wrecked too, but this is probably common I'm guessing

That 5th gear is dinky.

Reverse is not synchronized so there will always be normal 'grinding' wear. It's not that important being a little used gear anyway.

That 5th gear is dinky.

Remember that Rev and first are on the same shift fork.

That would be reverse counter and reverse idler gear on the rear shaft. With first counter gear on the stubby end of the counter gear driving it AND engaged to the large first gear above it. Reverse is the large gear to the rear with the wear on the leading edge of the teeth.

Fifth is at the front of the transmission just behind 'forth' where third would be on a 71B

I went thru 4 of them in 5 years.
well they last longer than doglegs.

The tranny is the only thing not rebuilt on the sedan. I've had it 10 abusive years and I'm positive the PO was even more abusive.
Love the 2-3 shift in the canyons!

the worn synchros are getting annoying...

I don't have a use for this tranny at the moment. This project was more just for the experience than anything.

If you need more experience, I'll take the rebuilt and send mine up.

"I can spend time working on the Dattos, or wasting money at the strip club. You make the call." :D

I'll put on chain mail and a dirt bike tire jock strap and drive it!!!!!
