Manual choke cable? 71 521

There is a small screw on the underside of the choke knob, and all the other knobs, also.

Remove the screw, and the knob comes off the shaft connected to the cable.

The cable housing is held to the dashboard with a chrome nut, that has two flats in it.  A 9/16 or a 14 MM open end wrench will unscrew the nut.  The entire cable can be removed then.

Either way it may be your only option if you want an original part.....

Even if you have to shorten the cable do as others said with the solder....

I actually soldered mine where I wanted the end to be and then cut through the end of the solder to keep it from unravelling... ( this was on my throttle cable.. universal and about a foot to long)

I dont get the keeping the stock choke cable?   buy a Generic.  You already took the stock wheels with hubcaps off to put chevy wheels on. whats the difference.

Because it wouldn't match the other four knobs. Who wants to swap out one stock wheel and roll down the road with a single chevy wheel.

Cable is cable, use whatever, no one can see it inside the sheath, but the knob set screw tightens onto a solid shaft. The shaft just pulls straight out from the dash. Might even be triangle shape so the knob choke image doesn't rotate and turn upside down when pulled out.The shaft has the cable secured to it.

Can't believe almost 3 pages on this.

I was thinking the same thing. Even if the handle is removable, it might be harder than expected to find a replacement with the same shaft shape and size.

And yes, three pages is absurd for something so basic. A trip out to the garage with a camera, a screwdriver and a couple wrenches could have confirmed what took three pages to discover.

Which should all be in one thread. You keep looking new, with every post. Stop doing that.

If you come up with a cool discovery, make a How-To. But every single nut and bolt does not need its own dedicated thread.

You should start a new thread telling people how-to not start a new thread every time they have something to work on.

Oh and dp, I’m pretty sure I have that choke cable x2.

Ratsun never ceases to amaze me. I posted the same question asking about a choke cable in my truck thread and guess how many replies that got? ZERO

Funniest part is the same dudes who complain are the same dudes who offer solid advice.

Thanks hoagie but dr510 hooked me up with one.
