No.  The 521 window is taller than the 410 or 411.  This makes the 521 vent rubber taller with a sharp upper corner, not a rounded upper corner like the 410 / 411 unit.

520 or 521 vent window rubber, sharp X-acto knife, rubber cement and the existing vent window [to hold everything in correct alignment] well lubricated to prevent cement sticking and you might have a functional seal.  The area around the window lock just might be very tricky.

Good thing 521 wing window seals grow on trees...

I have what well may be the only authentic replacement 411 right and left hand set of wing window rubber seals. In original Datsun parts sealed packages!  I refreshed my RL411 many years ago and noted scarce parts.  I ordered the wing window seals for future  use like when I tore the doors apart to replace the sliding glass and lower glass weather strips.  I have not yet gotten around to them!  BUT! I am not going to give up what may well be the sole surviving 410 / 411 set of original wing window weather seals in factory packging.

If it would make any sense, I can post the Datsun part numbers.

BTW, you can silence window rattle by slipping cardboard match stick between the window felt and the steel doors.  Ask me how I know!  You can't keep a 50 year old vehicle going without learning some off the book work arounds!

if mike would let me borrow his, i could pour some molds.....

I would absolutely demand seeing the process, facility, and proprietor of the proposed reproduction site before I would even consider these No Longer Available and desirable parts out of my custody !  I will not risk  a future total as built restoration of my original RL411 on some vague "I can get them reproduced" statement !  Back yard or amateur  attempts just won't cut it.  Not that I don't trust your desires and wants, but I have an irreplaceable pair of parts.  Example, what mix and durometer of rubber would you specify?

Not being totally negative but I must preserve my irreplaceable parts!

   Mike,

This is JP from Houston I read your old posting about 411 wing window rubber seals and I am trying to revive it to find a solution. Mine are shot and I've been considering several alternatives: Using black silicone caulking been the crudest; another one is using Flexane throwable. I also ordered some 520/521 rubbers from Australia thinking they where a close match, and I am under the impression they are not longer, but shorter (I know you said the oposite, but I use my 521 set and I have to strech it to fit) and could be made to work as you pointed out somewhere, but again not in a full functional way, so I was pondering instead the manufacture of this by some company like Vintage Rubber who appear already making them for the 520/521.

Since you mentioned you have an original set I just wonder if you are interested in making this happen. I will fund the project and provide support to make this happen. Please let me know if you are interested, since Vintage rubber is in California it would be easier for you to talk to them and smooth any wrinkles out and see if they are on the level.

I do have an extra vent and my pair of 520/521's if that helps.

Regards,

JP

I was flat on my back in an emergency room getting a blood clotremoved from my brain.  Unfortunately some things take precedent over the JCCS meting.

I will try to remember to bring my 2 OEM window rubbers next year.

Mike,

Sorry to hear about your health problems.

I made initial contact with the people from Vintage Rubber. They where asking me about 410/411 production numbers. More or less they where trying to ascertain how many of this cars are still around. Mostly here in the States but other countries alike. I guess the main question would be how many sedans versus 520/521 pick ups are still around since they already produced molds and rubber for the trucks.

In any case I am not qualified to tell them how many sedans are still around. As far as I know there most be some in the West Coast mainly California, Oregon, Washington and I also know there some in Australia and Mexico.

Maybe somebody can tell us where this cars are and come up with an estimate of the ones that are still rolling.

Like I said before, I want this to make it happen and I help anyway I can. Rightfully you mentioned how important it is the existance of one pristine set of window vent rubbers and I just have a left side that is in bad shape, but maybe it could be a start.

I am thinking perhaps they would like to split mold cost or something alike, but they told me they will call me later on (hope they will). As I said I don't think I am the most qualified to sell them the project, and maybe somebody here will jump to the chance to do it and I offer my help, so we can have this done.

Thanks and best

J.P.
