Chamse
Hey everyone On my datsun 620 1976, the charge lights comes on, when i turn on the lights, and shut off when i turn the lights off... I am unsure if replacing it with a replacement 35a alternator will fix this, or i should try to upgrade it to a better one? or could it be some other problem? Kind regards Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well you could try measuring the voltage across the terminals... 12.6 engine off over 14 when running Turn lights on should still be 14 may drop slightly. Check the plastic plug in the back is firmly seated and in place. Check the plastic plug for the voltage regulator is firmly connected. Battery posts and cables clean and tight. 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
I didn't know. I thought this was visible to all. Maybe the brushes are worn down too much. I've pulled brushes out of an old alternator and swapped them into another before. One of the three diodes may be bad or become un-soldered. The output would be much less. Quote Link to comment
