Ok so long story short i got the stock motor running good on all 4 cyl with a fresh tune up. So who ever rebuilt the carb on this thing messed up real bad as the gas was flooding the motor out and i have been trying to adj it to cut back on the gas and get more air so any ways i went to start it up and it whuld not start right up as it did before i checked the plugs and oil and smelled gas so i hope the gas didn't take out the rings but it for sure got in the oil and the spark plugs are all gunked up and it wasn't firing on al 4  so im new to the l series game and don't have any info on it and need to be pointed on the right path i also found and purched a l20 out of a 620 truck for rebuild and possible swap if needed and wondering what all will be needed to make that work after i rebuild it also where can i get good rebuild kits for them . also will a webber from a vw bug work with the motors? thanks in advance. pls don't laugh too hard   any help will be great

Slow down and properly punctuate your run on sentence. Mistakes get made doing this.

I assume that your tune up included new (clean) plugs? If the engine is worn out (burning oil) it won't take long to dirty up the once clean plugs, so I doubt anything suddenly happened to it. Clean the plugs and try again. Bet they dirty up right away again. Are they dry and sooty? wet? with oil or gas?

Is the carburetor flooding or just running rich? Look on the front glass and see where the fuel level is. It should be at the horizontal line. If over full the float in the carb probably needs adjusting or the inlet needle valve has dirt in it, both easily fixable. If just running rich maybe the choke is on or the primary and secondary jets swapped by mistake.

I would try to get the 521 engine fixed first or find out if worth keeping.

...don't think vw Webber will work. Thought I read that somewhere but get number of carb and call pierce manifold, Gilroy, ca.

Welcome to Ratsun.  Does the L20B have a carburetor?  The Volkswagen Weber will not work.

I have been dealing with Pierce Manifolds for several decades and have received great service and parts.

After Carb replacement:

Pull spark plugs and turn engine over to clear cylinders of any fuel.  Be sure to remove coil wire to distributor cap.  Change oil and filter, clean and gap plugs.  If you are concerned about the gas washing the oil out of the rings then add a little oil to each cylinder and turn engine over by hand to help lubricate cylinder walls.  Re install plugs and distributor cap wire and try to start engine.

This would be a good time to run a compression test and get the L20B rebuilt.  Good luck!

L20s use a 6 bolt flywheel so you need to know if this is from a car or truck as they have 200mm for the car and the truck used a 225mm Heavy flywheel.

If from a car you can use the stock 200mm clutch pressure plate and t/O bearing and collar. if from truck flywheel you need a 620 L20 clutch set with the T/O bearing which is in the kit but you need to find the collor as they are different length.

just buy a new weber.

Learn your L16 first and get the L20 on the side to build and get parts.

If a truck L20B (and I say B because an L20 is a six cylinder) does it come with a flywheel? If yes it will take a 225mm clutch and pressure plate. For this combination to work where an L16's 200mm clutch was, you will simply need to replace the release bearing collar with the one from a 225mm clutch. The release collar holds the release bearing and is matched to the clutch size. A 200mm collar would not work properly on a 225mm clutch.

You cannot swap flywheels as the L16 is 5 bolt and the L20B is 6.

Again the easiest way is to buy a $15 release collar for a 225mm clutch. Some new clutch kits come with the correct collar.
