Reminds me of my cousin telling me "the way things are going pretty soon old cars like your 510 won't be allowed on the road"  He said this almost 20 years ago.  Tabs this year for our Nissan Leaf were $475 dollars compared to $62 bucks for my 510.  They can put a digital plate on my 510 or whatever they want, I could care less.   As long as I can drive it around.

We voted in $35.00 registration fees in this state, $475.00 is criminal, our votes don't count.

Damn!

How the hell is it $475 dollars to register a car in WA?

Title and Registration for our 2014 Sienna in OR was $194, for 2 years, and much of that was the title transfer.

Is it just the Leaf or any new car in WA?

I should go ask my sister in WA what they pay to register their cars I guess.

I pay about $29 to transfer an ownership then only insurance after that. Why would you pay a registration fee when you and they know you own it? I insure for 4 months that covers the time around Canby and it's about $200 for the validation stickers.

Short answer: it works differently here. Ownership has nothing to do with it. Register is probably a poor way to describe it but that is what it is called, i.e, the officer says "license and registration, please".

Speaking for California and Oregon only, it is not possible to register for any period less than a year.

Generally registration, i.e., money paid to the state required to drive on the roads, is required every 1 or 2 years, to get the sticker for your license plate. This registration is dependent on you having insurance, and passing an emissions test (if applicable). Without the registration sticker (with a year 17, 18, 19 etc..) printed on it you are not legal to drive on the public roads.

Well our licenses (not plates) are renewed every 5 years. I think $70 but I get a senior's discount. Anyone with a valid license and an insured vehicle can access the public roads. Road repairs, upgrades and maintenance are paid for by province/federal from fuel taxes (more or less) The more you drive the more gas you use the more goes towards the roads. The average BC driver, when all tax offsets are accounted for, pays about $50 a year towards the highways. Welcome to socialist Canada.

They're probably charging extra on the electric to offset the lose of gas taxes.

$100 road tax since it doesn't pay the gas road tax

there is a value tax for a new transit system they are building.  Which I'm super excited for.

It's funny since my 510 is probably worth twice as much as our Leaf.

We r being tracked everywhere, from purchases, your cell phone, on star, cameras, your work, on line, surveys...so what's new, maybe efficient like license plates, my dogs have chips on them, in case they get lost, information about us is being sold to companies that tries to have you buy more crab that we don't need so that we go on debt forever. The word mortgage, if you take out mort, is till death...again what's new?

Value tax, that is just a loop hole around what the citizens of this state voted in, it's criminal.

It costs me more to tag my Mini than it does to tag my trucks, and that is a crime, trucks are way harder on the roads, they have tonnage fees also, yet it still costs more to license the Mini.

California rapes you on the truck registration. Was over a 100$ a year for a 521 and that was in the early 2000's. No idea now, but they come up as commercial vehicles.

For commercial vehicles,it's based on the GVW,which accounts for 1/2 of the fee.

I'll be glad when I get to Virginia. For an older vehicle, like our '67 MGB GT,

we'll only pay $50 for a lifetime plate.

Can you imagine that ever happening in California? If it did happen, they'd

have it repealed almost instantly.
