Is it really fucked up or semi ok?

Don't care for the 'park bench' bumpers of the '70s and smiley bumpers are impossible to find. Trying something else. May end up painting it. Not sure if grey or ???

Photo needs to be farther back away from the car to really see what it looks like.

Ahh nothing gets past you wayno. I couldn't because it needs to be shortened. It's way too wide. Was hoping to get it done first before a full frontal. I just put it up in place for a check. The 710 is pretty ugly without the bumper.

Chevy?

Actually it is but it could have been anything. Better to be lucky... than good. I found an old Firenza as well. Like the rear bumper but may be too thin without a roll pan on the back./

vauxhall-firenza-sl-2.jpg

Don't care for the point in the middle and not tall enough to cover the front roll pan on the 710.

Really like the rear one but again the 710 wagon has an ugliness behind the bumper that this one won't hide.. Maybe this one and a made up roll pan?

Can you stand farther back and still take a photo of half the car but get the whole car top to bottom in the photo.

There just isn't enough of the car in the photo, it looks fine in that photo, but farther back the bumper may look to big, it's hard to tell that close

It was a prick to balance and the bumper shocks are holding it out too far. I'll see this week. Those bumper shocks have to come off.

They put some funky stuff on cars way back when, as I recall they were for 5mph boo-boos or something like that, but them bumpers are so thin even 5mph would waste them, especially with them plastic corners, it would even bend the fenders on the 720s.

'74 in Canada. Had the 'Park Bench' 5 mph bumpers. Nothing about them is good.

You know in the end all that really matters is if you like it, who cares what anybody else thinks.

This, I keep in mind. 1/2 stupid looking is worse than full on stupid. Half is a fail at failing.

The park bench are horrid looking. The original chrome bumpers used elsewhere in the word are incredibly beautiful.

I agree. The park benches are terrible. They are effing heavy too! Anything else you put in will save you a serious amount of weight!

As for those bumper shocks....agreed.

Mine are a gunmetal grey.
Subtle and rarely noticed they're not shiny. Or its just the grime.

That's what I'm after. It's going to need cutting and welding to reduce the width and I'll have to attach it to the modified bumper shocks. The chrome isn't that great anyway for bumpers that are 55 years old.

OK I removed the bumper shocks and mocked it up very roughly... so imagine them both straighter and tilted level and the license plate bump properly centered in the middle. Oh and ignore rust, I pounded out the two dents (certainly enough to paint over) and I kept the chrome carriage bolts to fill the square holes.

Top to bottom you mean? It's classic pre '74 styling

Well, I find the front valance terrible to look at, even the park bench hides it at least. The rear has no valance at all and looks unfinished. I suppose I could find something thinner and make a roll pan but then it wouldn't match the front.

As mentioned there was a Firenza with nice thin bumpers but the front has a Pontiac 'nose' bump out in the middle to match the grill.

Thanks Matt, something to think about....

I like the rear look. On front it seems too tall.
