Lockleaf
No all 720 are electronic ignition which don't use a ballast. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The '84 720 uses a Z series engine with 8 spark plugs and the module is inside the distributor under the rotor. I know of no EI matchbox distributors that had 8 plugs. So... either you have an '80 720 or a 620, the engine was swapped or you have a 4 plug Z head on your Z24 or Z20 engine.. A picture of the engine would help. To answer your question the EI distributor with the module on the side (a matchbox) does not require a ballast resistor IF you use the proper EI coil. (anything from '78 up will work) If you have a points coil (not the best ides BTW) you will need a ballast or it will overheat. 2 Quote Link to comment
nissan720
That's what i did .I put a ka24e in my 720.Using a dizzy out of a 1979 620.It has the module on the side.So I don't need a ballast resistor with this set up.I have an aftermarket coil. Its summit coil. Will go to salvage yard tomorrow to get a factory coil if i can't find my old ones i took out .What is the proper EI coil? 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
This is the trouble with multiple posts instead of a build thread. You have to give some back story or assumptions are made about what you are really doing. I have a 720 coil on my matchbox L20B. 2 Quote Link to comment
