Well you need to know where you are, to know where you're going. Take you rim off and place a straight edge across the back of the rim and measure down to the wheel mounting surface (WMS) You don't have your profile completed. What year is your 620??? Before '74 the rim widths were 4" and after they are 4.5" wide.

 

If for example, the wheel mounting surface is 2.25 inches down and you have a '74 or newer, then your offset is zero and the WMS is in the center of the rim. If you go to an 8" rim there will be 1 3/4" extra on either side compared to the stock rim. If you get 8" rims with -2" offset your rim will end up 3 3/4" outward and fender clearance may be a problem. +2" offset may be in to far and hit the frame or suspension on turns. I'm using inches but offset is usually in millimeters (mm) Always know what will fit and what won't before buying. Rims should be selected to fit the truck, not the truck made to fit the rims. (see retarded below)

 

 

 

Setback or offset is more important. If too much negative offset the wheel and tire will sit outside the fender. This will result in the fender hitting the tire and gouging a groove all the way round or chewing up the sidewall as it turns. In addition dirt and road debris is thrown onto the body and it looks retarded because... it is retarded.

 

 

The 620 comes with 14" tires and rims. Most times you can go an inch taller without throwing the 620's esthetics off too much. When you get to 17" it doesn't look right in a fender opening designed for a 14" tire with more rubber showing. But hey, 14" are hard to find today and it's your truck. Over $200 US for a rim? Then tires? They'll be worth more than the truck!!!

I wonder what the guys running Titan wheels do for fitment. I know they do fit, but are they running wheels spacers or making other mods?

 

And those Titan wheels are huge. Fitting a 17" wheel shouldn't be too much work, but yes, as Mike said, get some measurements off your existing setup. Measure how much clearance you have with a wheel and tire mounted and use that info to help chose a new wheel/tire package.

Another thing is to see if the hole in the center is large enough to slip over the 620 hub. As these take a conical seat lug nut, doesn't the hole in the rim center on the hub diameter???

 

Stock tires are 6:00 x 14" or roughly 175/70R14 which are 23.65" tall and the sidewall is 4.8 tall. You don't want Donk Wagon Wheels so if running 17" and expect to get away with  an 8"tire you want it to also be around 23.65" tall so your speedometer, acceleration and over all gearing is not affected. The equivalent of a 175/70r14 in 17" rim would be...

 

250/40R17 @ 23.77 and 8.5" wide

210/40R17 @ 23.61 and 8.25" wide

204/40R17 @ 23.5 and 8" wide

195/45R17 @ 23.91 and 7.7" wide and side wall height 3.3" that's 1.5" less rubber and more rim on a 620.

Backspacing and offset aren't just different names for the same thing. Offset measures the offset from centerline. Backspacing includes the outside of the wheel lip, so on a cast aluminum wheel with a thick outer lip, an 8" wheel with zero offset wouldn't have 4" of backspace. It would have 4" of backspace + the thickness of the lip.

$856 worth of rims. Add in cost of machining the hubs, cost of longer wheel studs, lug nuts...and now 17" tires too.

 

 

 

And...AND...all of this weight is still on drum brakes.

 

But hey, if you think it's cool.

 

 

 

I'd be beyond happy with a set of 16" slots with good tires...and pocket the $400 saved.

 

When I put the K5s on my truck I could feel the difference big time. I would not add that much weight again.

Nothing better than to see a $6000 set of wheels and tires being eaton up by a rusted out Datsun wheel well because someone dumped said datsun on the ground!  LOL

A $500 car alarm on a $150 car.

 

What is it than makes people spend so much on flash and so little on style and worth??? Show over go?? Ego over elegance??  I think it speaks to all the others that have a shallow view of true value and see bling rims as status and the vehicle secondary, merely something to hang them on. Rims should be an understated part of a harmonious whole that compliments the vehicle they are on.   

 

The 620 is already beautiful looking. It can easily get by wearing pearls rather than diamonds.

I think the answer to that question, Mike, is closely related to age, which is a major factor in experience.

 

I have a neighbor kid who helps me out around the shop and in trade I help him with his Tacoma. He wants seats, LED's, bumpers, window tinting and stereo stuff  when what he should be buying is diff gears, lockers, transfer case adapters, rock sliders and stronger axle shafts.

 

They get some money burnin a hole in their pocket...
