emanistan
I've noticed that, though the basic design of the B210 dashboard was pretty much exactly the same throughout the production run, some dashboards are entirely black, while others have the middle section painted metallic silver. Does anyone know what this was about? Was it something done only during certain model years, did it denote different trim packages, or was it completely random? Quote Link to comment
Tolkmod
No idea as to what significants it has but I have a 74'4-door sedan with a 4 speed manual transmission. Mine had had the silver stripe down the middle that you're talking about. About a year ago I bought a complete replacement dash from a wrecked b210 exactly like mine but was a 76 and an automatic, that one had the solid black dash that i now have in mine. Not sure if that helps any. Also, as a side thought it's also where I was able to get a perfectly matching passenger front door to replace the dented one on mine. Fit perfectly. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I had a new '76 2 door sedan. Had the gray accent stripe. I checked the glove box door part numbers. They're all the same so I don't know what to say about the different colors.. Quote Link to comment
emanistan
I'm wondering if maybe the silver was on manual transmission cars and the black was on slushboxes. My car is a 78 two-door with an automatic and the dash is black. Last week I went to a junkyard and got two replacement dashes from a 74 and a 76; both had the silver accent, and if memory serves, both were manual shift cars, and after what you (Tolkmod) said, I'm beginning to wonder if that's what the difference is. As I think back over the interior photos I've seen of other B210s, I think it's always the manuals that have the silver stripe, but I'm not sure, and since people don't tend to save the automatics as often, there aren't as many pictures of them. datzenmike
My '76 was standard and gray/silver. Quote Link to comment
Dguy210
My 74' 4dr has the silver stripe and was an automatic. Could be 4dr, hatch, 2dr differences or early/late differences too. 78 hatch I pulled some gauges from was an all black dash as I have pics. Also, the 76 2dr had the silver stripe. emanistan
Hmm, well, there goes that theory. Maybe it did have to do with model years. I don't think it has to do with trim packages, since every B210 I've seen has the same delete panels regardless of the silver stripe. Quote Link to comment
76 fastback
My 76 B210 hatchback was an automatic car before I switch to 4-speed and it has the silver in the dash. Quote Link to comment
Cosmonaut
74 to 76 silver/gray stripe Updated B210 (also known as 211) 77 to 78 all black dash, along with a host of other changes Did not matter which package or Tran. Strictly by when the model update took place in 1977 1 Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
Cosmo any word on the wood faux? This is from a 1974. Seems like the center console is easier to find than the dash pan itself. The center console in my 75 is wood faux but the dash pan had the silver stripe. 1 Quote Link to comment

Interesting mix of options on that car too, has the small clock, wood trim, the better center console and A/C (dealer option only in 74), but it doesn't have a tach? 1 Quote Link to comment
Cosmonaut
I will have to do some research on the faux wood. I had a 74 once with it also. I am thinking it was on a specific grouping of options....perhaps....I will figure it out for sure, though. Quote Link to comment
Cosmonaut
I agree on the mix of options on the "B" Dan. Thinking that is not a factory small clock though. Curious though....who all likes the "faux wood"? I myself am leaning towards liking it... (but not on a hatchback) Quote Link to comment
emanistan
I've also seen pictures of the faux wood dashes. I think it was something not available on North American models. Every one I've seen a picture of was a European model, or, in this case, South African. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Probably owner applied MacTac wood grain stick on. Quote Link to comment
emanistan
I think I've seen period European market 120Y ads showing a woodgrain dash. Still, it might not be a factory-installed thing. It may be something dealers stuck on like the vinyl roofs some of the British ones came with. Quote Link to comment

The pic dat521gatherer has is LHD so that rules out UK and SA. I agree that this seems like a dealer thing maybe. Quote Link to comment
