Need help identifying Datsun diff.

Angry Lance sent me this pic. I have no idea from which model it hails. Any ideas?

Length from mounting surface to mounting surface might help

Or truck, or older Maxima wagon, or......something smaller like a B210

Count the splines on the axles.

Measure the opening on the housing.

 

PS, looks like it was dredged out of a river somewhere....rusted ring gear, & bearings.

Sure looks like an H-190 differential. That's a 190mm diameter ring gear.

 

 

 

Truck will have 6 bolt studs for the wheels, cars are 4.

 

Truck 29 spline, cars are 23. Some early Datsuns were 13 spline.

 

Roadster, 510 wagon and 520/521 trucks were usually aluminum case, maybe early '73 620. Steel after that.

 

 

The gear ratio is stamped on the outer edge of the ring gear. Example 37:9 is 37/9 or 4.11

Can't be for a car,,, look at the backing plates.. Cars don't have a cable that comes out near center ,, ( nipple with hole in it)

 

Or is there a weird one in the mix somewhere ?

Yeah, pretty much looks like a 521 axle...

Thanks all. I asked him for housing details, spline count, and axle length and am waiting for answers.

Axle length doesn't come into it. Do they have 6 or 4 lugs. 29 or 23 spline. Is the housing aluminum or steel. Scratch it with a screwdriver.
