Stackedfish
What a weekend, Drove 2000km over three days, with two three hour ferry crossings, towing a trailer, over mountains and dodging tourists to pick this little lady up. <imgsrc="http://i.imgur.com/FD5szZE.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /> <imgsrc="http://i.imgur.com/F89BphN.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /> 1978 620 King Cab L20B with 90,000 on the clock. Hope the images work. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I used to have a '78. You sure it isn't a '79??? The '79 had the chrome trim inside the rubber of the opera windows and the drip rails. I can't make it out but the '79 had the radio antenna on the left side A pillar. A '79 model year, would be any truck with a build date after June '78. The build date is located on the driver's door jam sticker. The '79 also had front fender emblems that said DATSUNBY NISSAN . I don't think the '78s had this, mine didn't. 3 Quote Link to comment

Stackedfish
Sweet cheers Jersey ! Bad news today. Spitting lots of water droplets and a good about of steam out of the exhaust with carbonized droplets when up to temperature. I'm thinking crackers head gasket ? Maybe a crack somewhere in the block ? Hope not because it's bloody hard to find L20bs in New Zealand. 1 Quote Link to comment
distributorguy
That moisture may just be an overly rich fuel mixture. Weak ignition, bad plug wires, or a carb that needs to be rebuilt are higher on the list than head gasket, unless there's oil in your coolant? 1 Quote Link to comment

Make sure it's not overheating and you can also check look for bubbles in the coolant. Also Check your oil and coolant for contamination as distributorguy suggested maybe run a compression check.... 1 Quote Link to comment
Stackedfish
Very very slight oil slick on the surface of the coolant when I drained it but this may be a result of it flowing over the oil stained chassis and into the pan. Hadn't been started is eight months, couldn't see water in the radiator when I first inspected it and thought who half fills a radiator with pure water ? The overflow tank was full of coolant concentrate too which was odd. Could be poor combustion however the amount of water vapor coming out of the exhaust is way more than I've seen with other vehicles I've owned. I'll look into the carburetor and leads before I pull the engine. The engine is sitting at 97,000 miles and I'm not sure if that's I should rebuild it or leave it be until higher mileage. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Empty radiator, full overflow often indicates a bad radiator cap. Also indicates failed head gasket, as combustion pressure pushes the cap open and vents your coolant 1 Quote Link to comment
Stackedfish
Still a bit puzzled as to why there was clean water in the radiator and anti-freeze concentrate in the overflow. Maybe the previous owner thought the two mixed together. Anyways I'm sure I'll figure out soon enough. Got a fair amount of panel work to do before I get to the engine. Cheers for the info guys, will keep you updated. Quote Link to comment
