I have the stock 710 tach and '79 Matchbox... works just fine... and it should. All points and EI do is open and close a path to ground  for power to travel through the coil. It's basically an on/off switch.

These pages are for 510 or 620 but you can probably figure out if any of it applies to your 610 tach.
