Plan on replacing all hardware and hydraulics. Just easier to have that piece of mind.

 

 

You can have drums resurfaced at a shop or parts store. Know a friend at a shop? Slip him a $20 to have this done.

I redid every piece of the brake system for my 521, F&R, for less than $250. Brand new everything and I machined the drums myself.

Nothing feels nicer than an all new brake system. When a 40 year old truck stops on a dime, that's cool.

 

I would at least check the drums to make sure they aren't out of round. Using warped drums will negate all the time and money spent on the rest of the brake system.

While doing the brakes, check the hoses, if it's cracked or crusty, change them. Really inspect the piston for leaks but clean it really good, go to the dollar store and buy some brushes or toothbrushes, get some brake cleaner.
