Gas cap leak

Recommended Posts

I noticed that after a short ride in my car ('70 510) there was a stream of gas down the side of it. The gas was apparently coming from a leaking gas cap. After inspection the old cap was kinda loose and the rubber grommet had seen better days. So, I went to NAPA and got a replacement. After installing the new cap that wasn't that much tighter and another short trip, it is still leaking.....

I'm not sure where to go from here. The tank is vented and it has a newer fill tube. What else to check?

Sell the filler tube or stash it, and go with a new modern cap.
