Yes the 5 speed will fit the Z24.  Here in Canada the mini van only came with the Z24.

Now... the release bearing collar or holder (that holds the release bearing) on the clutch arm must match the clutch assembly it is mated to. In other words if the Z20 came with a 225mm clutch it won't work with the 240mm clutch on the Z24 flywheel. Here in N America, the Z20 and the Z24 used in trucks both had a 240mm flywheel and clutch so there's no problem. Just make sure the Z20 five speed will be mated to the same clutch. At worst you will need to swap the Z20 flywheel/clutch onto the Z24.

Here the urvan was called the Vanette. Nissan recalled every one and scrapped them. I've seen a couple.

Wouldn't completing this swap be commiting the same error Nissan did that led to the recall?

I had researched this once, found a mint condition Vanette with a blown motor and I wanted to do a KA swap into it.  Everything I found IIRC said the Z24 is was led to the fire issue that killed the Vanette in North America.

They were designed for a smaller displacement engine like the Z20. Of course the American market demands all that is large and over kill to keep up with other fast vehicles so Nissan shoe-horned the larger Z24 in. It simply required more cooling because it makes more heat from doing more work. It was a bad idea and they overheat and can catch on fire.
