Sticking a 71b guts into a 71c case.

So I have a good 71b 5 speed and a 71c with a wasted 2nd gear synchro and possibly gear. My 510 has a Kade in it. I'm wondering if I can swap the cases to keep the angle and length of the 71c

I think have seen some write up about doing what your saying....

I do remember reading there are some other diameters that need to be opened up too..

I re-read what you posted Personally i am a little confused ..

are you trying to just swap the internals?

The little bit I read sounds like the tail section of the 2 transmissions might be different...

They say you can swap the bellhousings from one to the other with minor mods...

The first thing I would do is measure the length of both tail sections...

Posting some pics and a little extra info might help...

For instance pics of the bellhousings..

And what's the vehicle...

And I know the 71b came in 2 different length and 2 different bellhousings....

Not sure if there is more then one variation of the 71c

Me again.... so I get bored at work watching my machine run... and I looked up a 71c transmission and it looks like you can get a rebuild kit for around $100...

Gives your bearings and syncros...

If you willing to go through the labor and hasle of swapping cases which may or may not give you the desired end result..

It Might be a lot easier to rebuild what you have.... obviously depends on what is truely wrong with the transmission...

The 71B is different length so the main shaft will stick out the back if the C is from a truck and will be too short if from an sx.

The bell housing isn't actually removable. The bell is an integral part of the front case that contains the first 4 forward gears.
