updog
Hi I have a 71 Datsun 510. The reverse lights don't work. I located the reverse switch on the transmission. The 2 wires don't go to anything and no wires are near it. I have a Haynes manual but I can't figure out how to properly wire the switch. I would like to wire it the way it's supposed to be, but if I can't pointers on rigging it would help. Either way thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It's a switch doesn't matter which wire goes to which side, the switch merely connects them. Have you tried connecting them to see if the reverse lamps come on first? If they don't it's not the switch. Could be burnt out bulbs. Corroded bulb sockets.... Quote Link to comment
updog
Are you saying the 2 wires just need to be connected to a power and ground? Possibly. Quote Link to comment
Roadster-ka
He's talking about the pig tails on the switch. The car wiring is not available to hook up the switch. He needs find the harness. I would look on the lower pass side firewall for the harness that is long enough to reach the trans switch. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Misread. The two wires you are looking for are Red/Black stripe. Look above the starter. There should be a small harness passing near the dip stick handle and the starter. Probably has the Yellow/Black for the oil pressure sender and the Black/Yellow for the starter solenoid in the bundle. 1 Quote Link to comment

They are both red/black stripe. So I just connect those to the reverse switch at the tranny and (fingers crossed) it should work? Thanks for your help! Quote Link to comment
