Well, my wife has wanted one of these cars ever since she saw one in one of her favorite Slasher films of all times "He Knows You're Alone".  So we made a trip of it, left Friday at 4:45 AM, drove to Florida to pick it up, a blown Uhaul trailer tire and several stops to nap later we got home at 4:30AM Saturday morning.  It actually cranks right up and seems to drive OK...but it doesn't stop. So for now I'll be replacing a lot of vacuum hoses, or installing them since a few are rotted completely off, fixing the brakes, replacing some gaskets here and there, stopping what little rust there is from spreading and possibly getting her a weber carb. I really like the community here on Ratsun, so when I get back to my project car, I'll do the thread here. My car is an 83 280zx turbo that's getting a VQ37 transplant.

Yeah, there are two emblems in the glove box, one is the "Datsun 610" and it's broken, the other just says "Datsun" and is in great shape. There's also a roll of pin striping in the glove box. Rust is minimal and for the paint being original, it's in great shape.

This is the the car from the movie, so it's pretty damn close in appearance.  The one in the movie is a 74 evidently.

'74s were L20B engines, yours was (or should be) the only 610 year the L18 was used. Rather unique. Never cared for the 610/710 bucket seats, they're murder on your back. Great looking Bluebird goon!

Thanks man. I haven't sat in it for more than a few minutes to crank it and move it, though I'm sure my big ass will start hurting after a while. She's tiny so I doubt she will be bothered by them. I'll let her decide what she wants to do as far as performance and styling, but I'd like to keep the L18 in it. It only has 53k miles. I'll try to get more images of the interior, it blew my mind how nice it is inside, not a single crack in the dash, factory air conditioning (I'm sure it doesn't work, the belt is off the compressor) and nice and clean door panels. The seats have small tears in them, but nothing I can't patch.

Wait, your wife is into slasher movies AND Datsuns? Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Nice goon by the way.

Say, that Ute next to it, can you post us up an oic in this thread.

Yeah, this was when I had just finished painting it...right before it got rained on for two weeks straight. It's my work "truck", or as my friends call it: Das Camino. Cool little ride, but the MK4 it's built on wasnt in the greatest shape so now I'm trying to sell it.

Info on it: 2000 MK4 Jetta Vr6 12v with a Smythe Ute kit. One of the first three kits he made actually.

I hope to sell it because I really want a 620 KC.

Yeah, I know I lucked up, she likes cars, movies, has bad eyesight.....it's great. She lets me waste money on cars as long as she gets to watch and obsess over her movies. She knows so damn much about horror movies it's scary (see what I did there?).

That ute is pretty cool, I like it.

Bad eyesight...that is hilarious.  I have used that line before.

Whenever I think that I'm out of my mind for putting this much time and money into an old Datsun, all I have to do is look some of your threads to know that I'm not nearly as whack as you are.

You're going to skin a few knuckles, stand up too fast and bump your head, hunt around the floor for the nuts and bolts you dropped, invent a few new cuss words and when you're finished you'll say "That wasn't so hard after all!"

very clean 610.    Yours looks better than the one in the movie from 1980.

the data base says 74....But, looks like a 73 to me. chrome bumpers, hatch lower trim, front sidemarker, fender mirror plugs.

Nice, she'll be happy to hear that. I honestly don't know a whole lot about these cars yet so I don't know what to look for to tell what year is what. I agree this one is way nicer. I'll grab some interior pics today since it's so nice out.  Here's an OIC of her other "baby girl"

33571494654_2970f0ff37_z.jpgtc by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/154445435@N05/]

She loves this damn car too.  This is her second one, her first one we got hit head on last year and it was declared totaled. It's a cool little car, nothing spectacular but she likes it. She was willing to give it up for this Datsun when I saw it for sale in the Ratsun classifieds.  I had just finished telling her a few weeks ago that finding a 610 wagon in running condition probably wouldn't happen anytime soon, I'm glad I was wrong.   I'm trying to get her to join the forum, I'm sure she will.  Thanks for all the compliments, I wish my Z had as little rust as this thing does.

I just bought almost 200 bucks worth of parts from rockauto, which is like spending 30 bucks at taco bell....that's a lot of tacos.  I hope to have it on the road in the next few weeks.

Some cleanup is needed, a little rust preventer here and there, some filler over there. Lots of surface rust but only three really bad spots. Anybody know where to get replacement plastic for the shifter, the stuff that looks like floppy disk internals layered over each other? Damn, I should have taken an oic of it.
