Ideas for steering column surround needed

FrankenDime

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My 71 dime does not have the ignition on the steering column so the OEM column cover would not work.  If you see the picture it is relatively straight and cylindrical.  Any ideas how I can dress up the column?  If the pic does not show, please follow the link. 14947523_10210751248159340_2701036838615

I basically have the same thing hanging out of my dash. To be honest, I've kind of gotten used to it, but your car's interior is more suitable for human occupants than mine.

There are lots of different rain gutter down pipes that have a rectangular shape that would cover the shaft and fit into the rubber boot behind the blinker switch. You'd have to find a way mount it at the dash, but wrap with something cool and it might pass for a column. What are you using as your ignition switch?

Ignition was relocated to the center console.

What Draker said ^^^^^.............1969 shroud.  You might have to trim the bottom at the dash OR even "extend it" to meet up closer the later dash.......I've never tried it!  The other ideas are cool too if the rest of the dash stuff is custom.............

Go to Joan's, get a foam block, cut in half, shape acoordingly, cover in aluminum foil, then packing tape, cover in resin and at least one layer of 6oz fiberglass woven mat.

Drill holes for screws, and add collars

lol arguably the '69 was moved from the dash to the column. The Dime Quarterly says column. Point taken.

well it is next to the column but no steering lock because it is not mounted to the column it is in a bracket mounted to the bottom of the dash

the steering column covers for 68 and 69 are also different from each other

even though 68 and 69 dashes both have sweeping speedo gauge the heater controls and other controls are mounted completely different too

wasent trying to make a point just let him know the covers that will work
