SWDP 10th Annual Barbecue

Big thanks to Charlie, Gene & Danny for providing some good info regarding the bbq.

Our event has always been very kick back & family / friend oriented & welcome to all..we just ask that those who attend to use common sense regarding alcohol [not allowed per the park ].

In years past yes we would cruise to the Wig Wam & hang out there till dark but as Danny says we wont be going there anymore & more likely just staying at the park all day.

The bbq has always been a pot luck style event but SWDP will supply enough food to feed pretty much everybody one plate..by all means if youd like to bring extra burgers & or dogs that would be great !

This year we will promote the event a bit more on Facebook & possibly a few other sites & I can take care of the promotion part no problem.

& a HUGE thanks to Carlos for taking care of reserving the Gazebo for us this year & Charlie for designing the flyer.

If you guys have any specific ?,s my email is Datsun320620@yahoo.com or you can PM me here on Ratsun.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it this year!

Last year I was certain I'd have my truck operation by that time (though finally just got it operational a month ago), but I'm planning on more work again that will make it non-op for a while again - hopefully not another year!

If I recall correctly, not only did the fire impede many people getting there, but wasn't Fontana covered in ash and smoke at that time as well?

You've been missing out big-time if you haven't gone to one of these BBQs just because your Datto truck or Dat car isn't road worthy. In the past it was a 2 day event at a local motel with a pool, had a local cruise to a Datsun dealership for photo ops, a band at sunset, oh yeah... and a lot of cool Time- traveling Datsun Trucks!

In my experience the current one-day event Is still a very rare and unique experience. It is low-key uncrowded opportunity to see trucks ranging from projects-in-progress, to box-stock super original, to 70's retro So Cal fiberglass customs, to chop-tops. There is no swap-meet, show, or trophy competitions to distract truck owners away from hanging near their rides. It is a hang-out and a picnic, to lounge in chairs, sun, talk Dats, photo trucks and meet etc.

It's free, in a park, with lots of room. Just bring some food to grill &/or share, hang out and see how the truck owners did their builds or where they got their inspiration. It has been my experience that they like meeting new people (even newbies) , networking forbparts, and sharing ideas . The only thing limiting your experience... is if you're not asking the stranger next to you "Hey, do you know who owns this cool truck? I want to find out how he did this!" while pointing to something on his truck. It's the ultimate compliment...and introduction in one sentence.

My favorite part is sitting and talking with George Koepsel (sp?) who was the local San Berdoo/ Fontana delership owner "back in the day." He enjoys answering questions about running a dealership, what the trends were. It is great to hear his stories about his experiences. I just found out his son worked for a dealership too. I can't wait to meet him and hear his experiences too.

The only smoke this year will be from the BBQ, ash if you drop your hot dog in the coals, and hot air from the truck owners telling their acquisition stories and wrench-turning tales! Come hang out, eat a burger, and meet the creative guys who build and keep these great old Datsuns trucking!

I've been to four or five of these BBQ's over the years, made new friends at each event, and had a blast every time. And....I drove my daily driver every time! Don't miss out cuz your Datsun isn't road-worthy. Meet you there!

Very well said Seeker > 620 KC.

It is a barbecue and if you will a meet and greet.  Good times.  Like Seeker said if you vehicle is not drivable come any way.  I trailered my 520 from Phoenix a couple years ago.  But not being able to bring my truck did not keep me away.

If things work out I am trying to drive my truck this year even though it will not be completed.  I can not think of a better shake down run then to drive it to Fontana California and back to Phoenix.  Who knows if it goes good to Fontana I just might have to run it up Scenic Route 1 and meet Mike Klotz and Wayno and Hogie and some more of the NW Rats.  LOL

Then take it home fix the bugs and tear it down for body and paint.  This would make a terrible year so far turn in to a great year!!!

SCGreen has contacted us.  I do not believe we are doing T shirts this year.

I am trying hard to be able to have my 520 there this year but it is coming faster than I am getting things done on the truck.

I know the feeling I have no time for my truck what so ever
