An engine is a symphony....

Everything has to match, or there is little benefit.

Just adding one performance item seldom makes any notable gain, unless it's something like a complete supercharger kit, and I don't think there are any of those around.

Add just a header, if your lucky you don't lose power because your jetting is all screwed up due of better exhaust scavenging.

Add just a larger carb, minimal gain because of stock intake, and stock ports.

Add just a cam, minimal gain because of stock carb intake, and stock ports.

Do all of the same, and due to stock compression, you still don't get what you paid for.

Most bolt-on mods only give a performance gain in the mind of the person who bought them.

Oh, and the bolt-on supercharger kits for modern cars, seldom are designed for much boost, so the $5k people spend on them to get 100 extra horses is pretty expensive also.

Called the placebo effect. I call it "The more money you spend on it... the greater the expectation of gain, syndrome" Paying $400 for an MSD that duplicates what the stock EI does is incredibly strange to me. True, it's painted red, but do you really get $400 worth of actual performance for all that red?

Here's a way to get 15 extra HP for about $5...

Cheap headers get their bad rep from their poor build quality and short life span. If you're willing to put extra time in to add a good outlet flange (v-band clamp) and upgrade all the fasteners to make sure the gasket stays put, it might not be a bad investment. If you take it a step further and have it heat coated (Jet Hot) it may last a long time.

But the HP gains will be minimal, even with a cam and dual carbs. It's just not a performance header. They were never designed as such.
